Senator Stiles is Not What She Seems

After reading Rep. Fred Rice’s glowing support of Senator Nancy Stiles [here and after the jump  -Skip], I felt it important to put forth a challenge to his endorsement.  As a member of the 2013-2014 House of Representatives – Belknap District 8, I saw up close and personal, the disturbing voting record of REPUBLICAN Nancy Stiles.  Here are a few of her REPUBLICAN votes:

• Support of NH Gas Tax (23% increase)
• Support Medicaid Expansion (against the Republican Platform)
• Support the “Buffer Zone” law (which the Supreme Court recently voted as UNCONSTITUTIONAL)
• Supports Common Core in NH Schools
• Supports an anti-gun legislation

If you look at Senator Stiles voting record, you will find many of her votes grow government.  There are those who believe Nancy Stiles is really more of a Democrat than a Republican.  I tend to agree.  The Republican taxpayers in Senate District 24 should consider Senator Stile’s deviation from the largest planks of the Republican Platform.  If you want a Democrat, you can vote for a Democrat.  But, Republicans should expect their public servants to vote with AT LEAST with the larger planks in the platform.  Stiles does not.  Her primary opponent, Steve Kenda, is a true conservative Republican who espouses low taxation and smaller government.  You can check out Steve Kenda @ Kenda4senate.com.

…It’s ironic. In 2009, conservatives (myself included) pounced when Barack Obama seemed to dismiss American exceptionalism as an empty platitude. “I believe in American exceptionalism,” Obama explained, “just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”

Which is to say, there is no such thing as American Exceptionalism.  One of my favorite phrases comes from an animated film – The Incredibles – a nuclear family that has to hide its superpowers from those that are envious (and thus believe them to be “unfair”):  “If everyone is special, then no one is special”.  And that was the point that Obama was and continues to make (and make true) – that America isn’t and shouldn’t be anything special.

By this standard, American exceptionalism isn’t exceptional, it’s a vague and meaningless form of national self-esteem, rather than a complex concept describing the uniqueness of the American founding and American character.

And that is what most Liberals wish to forget and for the rest of us as well –

Cloward & Piven were two NYU sociologists and Socialists that predicated that by overloading the welfare system and drive New York City so far into debt, it could not recover and Capitalism would have to be replaced by another form of governance (gee, guess which!).  They almost succeeded.

Once again, we see it at play but this time, on a national scale.  We are getting Dense Pack’d by the Obama Administration – in too many areas to fight back, our culture and Constitutional Republic are being pushed to the breaking point and now, a veritable Alinsky / Obama army is invading us.   In my inbox:

General Kelly had better be careful how he criticizes Obama’s and La Raza’s  (“The Race”) for completely opening our border with Mexicoor he’s gonna get to retire early (if not outright cashiered out) (emphasis mine, reformatted):

A top United States general in charge of protecting the southern border says he’s been unable to combat the steady flow of illegal drugs, weapons and people from Central America, and is looking to Congress for urgent help.  Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, has asked Congress this year for more money, drones and ships for his mission – a request unlikely to be met. Since October, an influx of nearly 100,000 migrants has made the dangerous journey north from Latin America to the United States border. Most are children, and three-quarters of the unaccompanied minors have traveled thousands of miles from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

“In comparison to other global threats, the near collapse of societies in the hemisphere with the associated drug and [undocumented immigrant] flow are frequently viewed to be of low importance,” Kelly told Defense One. “Many argue these threats are not existential and do not challenge our national security. I disagree.”

Moms Demand Action, the Astro-turf group funded by former NYC Mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg (Wait!  I thought US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that the Democrats didn’t “have” any billionaires??) has been going around to commercial entities like Starbucks, Chili’s, Lowe’s, Home Depot – you get the idea.  Because they and their fellow “disarm the general populace” gun grabbers having had zippo lately for more infringing of peoples’ Second Amendment Rights, they’ve decided to tell private companies that they would punish them economically if they didn’t, in turn, punish those that wished to exercise their Right.

Target was their latest target, and with a few open carry folks that had no sense of common sense and nuance, the CEO put out a statement concerning customers and their guns.  Nicely worded, vague and all, but it seemed to give Moms Demand Action a glimmer that they got what they wanted.  Not quite.  If you translated it (as I am oft to say “We can say things that others can’t – or won’t”), it came out like this (H/T:  Bob Owens):

How the heck did we get caught up in this mess? All we want to do is sell cheap foreign-made stuff to hausfraus who feel they’re too good to be “people of Walmart.” We don’t want to be involved in gun rights politics at all.

But thanks to some grandstanding long-gun open carry yahoos in Texas who can’t figure out basic muzzle discipline, and the response of some shrill harpies in Indiana taking orders from a bitter under-sized billionaire in New York, we’re screwed through no fault of our own.

From Tom’s post about our Jr. Senator Kelly Ayotte signing up for this bill, Sportsmen’s Act S. 2363, that is being sponsored by known Democrat anti-gunners Senators (some of which are also Democrat illegal alien amnesty Senators), it mentioned:

The Sportsmen’s Act is, substantively, largely a “nothing-burger.” People could hunt on federal lands — unless Obama didn’t want them to. Dedicated funds (from the Pittman-Robertson tax) could be used for ranges — but don’t have to be, and probably wouldn’t be. Moreover, Section 107(b)(4)(B) of the bill says that the BLM or Forest Service can close down federal public lands that can be used for hunting and recreational purposes for a host of reasons, including “public safety.”

Not that I disbelieved them but I decided to read the 59 pages and pull out some of the verbiage to support the claim – turned out to be real easy:

Sec. 103 (d)

It is the sense of Congress that, consistent with applicable laws (including regulations), the Chief of the Forest Service and the Director of the Bureau of Land Management should cooperate with State and local authorities

SHOULD is not SHALL.  SHOULD mean “ok, if you wanna, if you feel like it, and if all political signs and smoke signals seemed to indicate “good to go”.  If having a bad hair day, naw.  Sorta like when concealed carry used to be “may” here in NH – it all depended upon if the issuer liked the idea or you.  If either of those were negative, you were out of luck.  However, the change to “shall” was a game changer – a POSITIVE issue instead of a WHIM issue.
