Yup, an incipient Soup Car Nazi; SeacoastOnline has an article dealing with the idea of changing their housing ordinances to allow micro-apartments.  These are gaining traction in really high cost cities (San Fran, NYC) where lack of space, land use regulation and rent-subsidies have artificially put a distortion that has resulted in extremely high rents on those places on the open market.  Sufficiently high that it has forced low income and “workforce” folks out of the local markets.  So the idea of “micro apartments” was born – 250 to 350 square feet and at “reasonable prices”.  In other words, a space equal to some folks’ walk-in closets.  But Portsmouth (NH) thinks it needs this idea (reformatted, emphasis mine)?

PORTSMOUTH – City Councilor Eric Spear wants the city to look into putting micro-apartments for workforce housing at the Parrott Avenue parking lot. “Ever since I’ve been on the council we’ve been trying to get workforce housing for a number of years,” Spear said this week. “We’ve had good intentions but we haven’t had success.” Portsmouth residents or people who work in the downtown have been frustrated by the lack of success, Spear said, and by considering the idea of putting micro-apartments at the city-owned parking lot, officials can get the discussion started.

“Rather than wait interminably for a developer to come in sometimes you have to take leadership on an issue,” Spear said.

Just saw this at the Boston Globe – am REALLY surprised (because of their very liberal slant) they even printed it.  But given the absolute vitriol that the Left has for folks like me, I’ve put that Letter to the Editor here (reformatted, emphasis mine):

When I boarded the commuter rail, you were already in the midst of a spirited phone conversation and didn’t seem to care about how loud you were talking. You were talking with someone about the Paris train attack and the growing epidemic of gun violence in America.  You spoke about the “murderous NRA” and “bloodthirsty gun nuts” who were causing our schools to “run red with blood.” You spoke profanely of the Republicans who opposed President Obama’s call for “sensible gun control,” and you lamented the number of “inbred redneck politicians” who have “infiltrated Capitol Hill.”

When the Left talks about tolerance, that is what they do – belittle, dehumanize, and describe those that disagree with them in the most derogatory terms.

I found myself amazed at the irony of the situation.

Steve’s post is talking about the dark underbelly of the “refugee” invasion that Germany’s Prime Minister Angela Merkel both condoned and welcomed – how else was Germany to fill those 1 million jobs for which there were no Germans to fill? It alludes to both the self-deception that the EU is experiencing as well as the almost complete media blackout on the bad “collateral damage” that is being hoisted upon the common folks. C’mon in, we got the light on fer ya.  And come they did.  And given the absolute political correctness that passes for normality in the EU, NO one was to criticize these Muslims coming in the Middle East or North Africa.  Assimilation?  You RACIST – how DARE you say anything bad!

Or that’s been the mantra as I’ve watched this mass migration of mostly single, military aged men basically be an invasion force.  Were they grateful for being given refuge from their war-torn hellholes?  No – I’ve already blogged about their behavior, screaming at the European women that were acting as aid workers, food thrown away and demands for their “own food” shouted, and complaints made about almost everything.

And then the blinkers fell off on New Year’s Eve as these “refugees” turned the annual celebration in a misogynistic mauling of the native single ladies simply out to celebrate the holiday. You see,

It isn’t just those agencies but others that made my head hurt.  After all, Obama has made it a defining pillar of his foreign policy to make changes here in the US to impress other countries (e.g., “other countries WILL follow our lead at decarbonizing ourselves to save the planet from global cooling warming change chaos”).  Yet, notice the dichotomy – even as he’s aching to disarm civilians (and the Libs are full throated about doing it now by calling for severe restrictions, higher taxes on guns and ammo, and outright calls for total confiscation), look at how these Fed agencies are arming up.  I can see law enforcement, but the Smithsonian??

Since FY 2006, 44 traditionally administrative agencies have spent over $71 million on items like body armor, riot helmets and shields, cannon launchers and police firearms and ammunition, according to federal spending data from watchdog group OpenTheBooks.com.  This comes in addition to the $330 million spent on such equipment in that period by traditional law enforcement agencies like the FBI, Secret Service and Drug Enforcement Administration.

• Nearly $2 million spent by the Department of Veterans Affairs on riot helmets, defender shields, body armor, a “milo return fire cannon system,” armored mobile shields, Kevlar blankets, tactical gear and equipment for crowd control.

Tell me, when is the last time that we heard about a riot at a VA hospital (although, with the abysmal and uncaring outlook on all the vets that didn’t get the care they deserved so that administrators could get bonuses, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of such)???

That was from an email I received from Kelly Ayotte, the junior Senator from NH.  She’s running for reelection and I’ve been getting a bunch of her emails touting her “accomplishments”.  No, I’m not going to post it here – especially as it leaves out some of her accomplishments that, well, don’t sit well with the conservative base here in NH.  Like “crossing the aisle” in supporting Obama’s EPA power grab (literally and figuratively) in the Clean Power Plan.  Being a lawyer, I am still waiting to hear from her where in the US Constitution the EPA / Executive Branch has this authority?

And given, yet again, Obama’s lawlessness (which she voted for the budget bill that didn’t even give him a slap on the wrist for his waywardness) actions today, former NH State Senator Bob Clegg has a few bon mots on that decision that enabled Obama to do this (emphasis mine):
