Co-founder of GraniteGrok, my concern is around Individual Liberty and Freedom and how the Government is taking that away. As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us. trumpcnnI missed last night’s CNN Townhall with the Republican Prez candidates.  As always, Donald Trump made the buzz of the night.  Certainly his utterance on abortion made waves.  Sure, I am a pro-life supporter but even I blanched when I heard what he said.  That said, it’s what else he said that caught my attention on one of my most important question: The Proper Role of Government.  I have resisted the impulse to be a Trump basher given the absolute hee-bee jee-bees he has given the GOPe and shaken up how the issues are being discussed; for that he should be applauded.  However, I did need to blog my displeasure on this.  Anderson Cooper is the interviewer

COOPER: In your opinion, what are the top three functions of the United States government?

TRUMP: Well, the greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education. I mean, there are many, many things, but I would say the top three are security, security, security.  We have to have security for our country so that we can continue to exist as a country. We are in danger. Thousands and thousands of people are infiltrating our country. We don’t know who they are. There’s a very vicious world. We’re living in a very vicious world and we’re doing something that is against a lot of very smart people’s wishes. I can tell you, it’s totally against my wishes.

NH just said: hey, layabouts – we’ll fund your health insurance with other peoples’ money

Gladly, too – these Republicans decided that they know better how to spend your money than you do.  To wit:

Shot: States moving to restore work requirements for food stamp recipients

…Kansas was one of the first states to reverse that in 2013.  “I believe most Americans and most Kansans think it’s common sense,” said Andrew Wiens of the Kansas Department for Children & Families. “These are able-bodied adults without dependents. They don’t have children in the home. They’re not elderly, they’re not disabled. These folks should be working.” Since Kansas reinstated work rules, food stamp rolls dropped by 20,000 and the incomes of those who left increased by 127 percent, Wiens said.

..Maine followed the Kansas lead in 2014. In the first three months, the number of able-bodied adults without children on food stamps fell by almost 80 percent.

Yup, Republicans in other state making sure their citizens’ Federal taxes aren’t paying for able bodied loafers / takers.  NH?

Frankly, they’re ALL daft and all too concerned with making victim of themselves

feminismI don’t write much about the loonyness that is going on in the Ivory Tower (Ground Zero for the stupidity that is known as Political Correctness) – it just gets too bizarre that these precious snowflakes that seemingly haven’t had to work a second in their lives and pay taxes are all up in arms about what kind of victimhood mantle they’re about to don for their daily crybully sessions.  And it all seems to stem from “Intersectional Feminism”.

Yup, I kid you not – what might be the headspring of this river of nuttiness has been revealed.  Certainly this slicing and dicing and kvetching about which micro-identity group is at the top of the victim totem pole (er, black old fat lesbians, or is it young Asian guy with allergies) or bottom (well THAT’s easy – it’s me: old white evangelical male head honcho of the patriarchy or is it…heck, there’s already a few of microagressions in there just me trying to make a joke that someone will get all uppity about) or somewhere in the middle.  Heck, its all academic and they all get so whinny because like all things in Academia, since the stakes are so low, the resulting politics are stratospheric (as they think so, so highly of themselves and glorying in their sackcloth and ashes).

A GREAT example of that here in NH was my Jr. Senator from NH, Kelly Ayotte (R) concerning bringing Federal tax money back to NH to fight the heroin / fentynal problem (no, it is NOT an epidemic – there are no pathogens traveling around the ether that make people addicted.  Instead, it is a personal decision to snort or stick stuff in your body that you just shouldn’t do).  I dryly note that she vote to break the Sequester bill – the bill that for the first time in a long time, cut the Federal budget and thus lowered the tax/debt level that lays across our shoulders – quietly taking more of our money.  I have YET to hear her make big big stinks about NH money leaving to trudge down to DC and doing something worthwhile in stopping that journey. But boy, is she all over the media

Shades of TX Gov Rick Perry trolling CA and NY to “get” jobs – but FL Gov Scott trolling Yale?

This is funny as all get out – and EXACTLY what low cost States should be doing to the money-grubbing ones.  I put this post up yesterday about the deep Blue State of Connecticut eyeing more revenue by going after the endowment funds held by Yale with the main message of “theft by the point of a pen”.  The message was that private property really isn’t all that private when Legislators decide that “your’s is ours” under the Progressive rubric “We know how to spend your money than you do”.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina’s attorney general said Tuesday he won’t defend in court a new state law preventing Charlotte and other local governments from approving protections for LGBT people, calling it discriminatory and a “national embarrassment.”  Democrat Roy Cooper made the announcement during a news conference a day after gay rights advocates sued to overturn the law approved last week and signed by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

Our State Department can’t even identify the group targeted by Muslims: Christians

Yesterday was Easter, the most holy day in the Christian calendar.  While Christmas seems to get the main billing in our secularized society, it is only the remembrance of His birth.  Easter is the observation of Jesus’s Resurrection – the entire event that defines what Christianity is – that God was made Man while still being God and willingly dying on the Cross as a propitiation for our sins.  In Pakistan, Muslim members of the Taliban deliberately targeted Christians observing Easter with a suicide bomber, killing around 60 and injuring hundreds more.

So what do you think our State Department formally said about this?  Do you think this religiously motivated attack included, you know, words describing those religions? Er….

Ivanpah collective solar – Feds about to shut it down?

ivanpahIvanpah is the multibillion dollar solar electrical generation plant that was built in the California desert a few years ago; we’ve written about it here, here and here.  Well, there were doubts aplenty then about it and now the bill is about to come due.  From MIT Technology Review (emphasis mine):

When it first came online in late 2013, the massive Ivanpah concentrated solar power plant in the California desert looked like the possible future of renewable energy. Now its troubles underline the challenges facing concentrated solar power, which uses mirrors to focus the sun’s rays to make steam and produce electricity.

Last week the California Public Utilities Commission gave the beleaguered Ivanpah project, the world’s largest concentrated solar facility, one year to increase its electricity production to fulfill its supply commitments to two of the state’s largest utilities (see “One of the World’s Largest Solar Facilities Is in Trouble”).
