Ivanpah is the multibillion dollar solar electrical generation plant that was built in the California desert a few years ago; we’ve written about it here, here and here.  Well, there were doubts aplenty then about it and now the bill is about to come due.  From MIT Technology Review (emphasis mine):

When it first came online in late 2013, the massive Ivanpah concentrated solar power plant in the California desert looked like the possible future of renewable energy. Now its troubles underline the challenges facing concentrated solar power, which uses mirrors to focus the sun’s rays to make steam and produce electricity.

Last week the California Public Utilities Commission gave the beleaguered Ivanpah project, the world’s largest concentrated solar facility, one year to increase its electricity production to fulfill its supply commitments to two of the state’s largest utilities (see “One of the World’s Largest Solar Facilities Is in Trouble”).

The Blue Social Model failure – because the Democrats / Progressives / Socialists have no limiting factor beyond which Government should not tread, their main goal is not helping people but finding / taking money to feed their ideologic fix (that Government must be all things to all people doing anything they want it to).  So, they wage war and go where the money is…

…even it is from one of their main bases of support – the Ivory Tower.  If you are a conservative, ya just gotta smile on this Blue on Blue $$ fight.  After all, Progressives in Government truly believe they know better how to spend your money – even if it is from other Progressives that are churning out more Blue foot soldiers: Blue Civil War Escalates (emphasis mine):

Now that the NH FITN Prez Wannabe Beauty Contest is now long gone, we can start turning our attentions to what matters: NH (e.g., “screw DC, save NH”).  That certainly means it’s time to start watching and evaluating NH specific races which certainly includes the Governor one.  Ann Marie Banfield has an extensive email list to which I am on and this was one of her latest missives, pointing out Chris Sununu’s (current NH Executive Councilor and looking to upgrade to NH Governor) statement on NH’s continued engagement with Common Core (full content after the jump).  I read it and found it strangely worded (not to mention at after reading it several times, it was not clear how he had voted).

“Today the Governor and Department of Education asked for a vote by the Executive Council for a retroactive contract renewal with the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium for statewide academic testing of New Hampshire school students. Parents and teachers across the state have raised serious questions about Smarter Balanced testing and Common Core standards, and whether this is the right path for New Hampshire. Yet by bringing the contract before the Executive Council seven months late, the state has been put in a position of having to accept these tests and standards or risk losing over $250 million in federal funding.

“This is yet another example of the federal government forcing their priorities onto states by threatening to withhold funding from anyone who does not toe the line. This is a failure of leadership at both the national and state level, and I am committed to restoring local control to New Hampshire schools…

A feminist picnic turned into a complete disaster yesterday after none of the women brought any sandwiches.

The picnic was supposed to celebrate the capabilities of women in a safe, women-only environment, but things didn’t quite go as planned.  With the sun hanging high in the sky it seemed to be perfect weather for a picnic. But the seven proud feminist friends were in for a big surprise when none of them brought any food at all.

Capabilities….except when it comes to the comestibles at an outdoor event where they play a main role.

Most of these characterizations are little more than name-calling masquerading as analysis. . . .

The latest spike in License to Carry gun applications is expected to take Texas past a significant milestone.

CHL Licensed Instructor Michael Cargill owns Central Texas Gun Works.  He says the 140 percent jump in applications from December 2015 through February is caused by a combination of fears of terrorism brought on by the shootings in San Bernardino and President Obama’s proposed gun control laws.

“Then you have the new law that went into effect January the first (Open Carry)…all of that plays into it, and that’s why we’re seeing numbers. For the first time the State of Texas will actually go over one million licensed holders,” says Cargill.

“The resolution does not expect students to pay for these services as I, and those who voted for it, believe that health is a right not a privilege,”

A classic case of two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for supper.  Sheesh, it just gets more and more impossible to believe that our educational system is functional at all.  The basis of education is the ability to take facts, string them along in a coherent way such that critical thinking can produce an intelligent conversation.  I like listening to reasoned intelligent people discussing complex issues.

Shot:  It’s all about the power

A.J. Spiker, past chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa and a former senior advisor to Sen. Rand Paul’s presidential campaign, said the RNC is against Trump because he has not taken any special interest money, which would secure RNC influence over the president.

“He is not beholden to them,” Spiker said. “These are people you wouldn’t even want looking after your children.They are deadbeats. The RNC wants someone in the office they can have influence on. With Trump they would have no power. They would rather lose the election and keep the power of the Republican Party rather than win the election where they have no power.”

Wallace: SoCons Aside, Republicans Should Consider Supporting Hillary

. . . on today’s Morning Joe, Nicolle Wallace, citing GOP consultants, suggested that–other than social conservatives–Republicans concerned with foreign policy should consider supporting Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Hillary supporter Harold Ford, Jr. could be heard chiming in with a “well said.”  Wallace was echoing the argument laid out by Joe Scarborough: that on a range of issues from foreign intervention to Israel, taxing the rich to breaking up the banks, Clinton’s positions are closer to those of the GOP establishment than Trump’s.
