While I know that we are in a strong financial and political position looking ahead to the final two months of the primary, recent developments with both my family and business have caused me to arrive at this difficult – but appropriate – decision.

Deep StateGlenn Reynolds, proprietor at Instapundit, built his reputation, influence, and ranking as a news aggregator in doing zillions of links with just a sentence or two describing what it’s for or commenting on the content at the link.  Seldom, VERY seldom, does he do a looong abstract from the piece he’s linking to.  Given the length of what he did quote, it’s important and I’m reproducing it here: The Dishonesty Of The Deep State:

Rick Notkin – candidate for NH State House, Belknap County District 2

Rick NotkinRecently I was asked why I was running for NH State Representative. The easy answer would be that I was corralled into it. Really, there was an open seat as one of the reps was not running for re-election so I had an opportunity to “put my money where my mouth was”, so to speak.

One of the main reasons that my wife and I moved to New Hampshire was the lower level of government intrusion into people’s lives. My overall view is supporting free-markets and individual liberty. I believe that when people have the freedom to engage in capitalism, the free market can solve many problems that arise. I also believe people should be able to run their own lives, as long as they don’t interfere with the rights of others.

Proponents of government programs and projects usually proclaim that given problems will be solved. “Leave it to us” actually seems to mean “you can’t handle it yourselves”. More insidiously, the actions (or inactions) of bureaucracies that are put in place to run the program often can’t reach the goals that were set.

CNHT Taxpayer Family Reunion Picnic – NH’s Executive Council candidates: Jane Cormier and Jim Beard

CNHTTo be honest, I would have thought a few more prospective Republican candidates would have shown up at the CNHT Annual Taxpayer Picnic:

  • Like my Exec. Councilor, Joe Kenney who has a primary with Kim Strathdee in District 1 (yes, my personal “please vote for Joe Kenney”)
  • Russell Prescott (who went to the Dark Side by proposing a whopping increase in the highway toll taxes – maybe that’s why he was a no-show)
  • Ted Gatsas – guess “His Honor” decided that CNHT was a bit too low to visit

BUT!  Jim Beard who is running unopposed in District 2 showed up and Jane Cormier, the soon to be “Singing Councilor” (Sidenote: She will be singing the national anthem at the beginning of the Manchester Fisher Cat game on August 3rd.) were present and willing to speak to the crowd:

Rebecca Bailey – candidate for NH State House, Grafton County District 15

Note: After 2 1/2 years, I am finally getting back “on the circuit” and getting to events.  When I do so, I have been offering to candidates that have been vetted to send me a quick blurb on who they are, what they are running for, and WHY they are running.  We at GraniteGrok have a decent sized voice here in NH – why not use it for the betterment of like minded folks?  So, Becky sent this so I’m keeping a promise made and putting it up

Rebecca BaileyRebecca has lived forty plus years in Grafton County New Hampshire, fourteen of those years in the town of Piermont. Where she and her partner Robert, have raised five children.

Rebecca grew up in Lyme, New Hampshire where she was a member of the local 4H Club and showed cattle around the area. She was often seen on her grandparents farm and other farms in town, on construction sites with her father, and at church with her mother. CNHT Taxpayer Family Reunion Picnic – The video!

CNHTActually, a whole bunch of videos – 32 to be exact.  That’s a lot of candidates and advocacy group that made their pitch to the assembled “family” members who were plentiful on Saturday (yes, it took me a day to process them.  Please note that “backups” were used to stitch things together as best as possible as sometime techie things didn’t quit go right as planned – apologies in advance). But hey, this is one of the main missions of the ‘Grok in doing the citizen journalism that the mainstream media refuses to do.
