Gov Sununu Vetoes The Democrat’s Tax and Spend Budget

by

The Democrats decided to pull the same financial stunt just before Bill O’Brien became speaker. Create a structural deficit by using “today’s surplus” to up the amounts spent in following years.  But current financial revenue performance is no indication of the future. Who knows if the State’s revenues will remain high especially if these bills, with their higher taxes, and more burdensome demands handcuffing our small businesses.

So while there are no Pressers out from the Governor’s office, it is now a fact. New Hampshire will live within the current budget unless his veto is overridden, or they reach a compromise that will not raise taxes and spend revenue which history tells us Democrats aren’t all that accurate at estimating. But as you’d expect, some on the Right have a few messages about the vetoes.

Concord, NH – NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement regarding Governor Sununu standing up for New Hampshire by vetoing the Democrat budget proposal:

“Granite Staters thank Governor Sununu for vetoing the disastrous budget presented by New Hampshire Democrats. From raising taxes, increasing the cost of doing business, and underfunding and cutting key priorities for our state, Governor Sununu did the right and prudent thing by rejecting this spend-and-tax proposal. Doing so protects New Hampshire taxpayers, families, and initiatives that President Soucy, Speaker Shurtleff, and Leader Feltes ignored. A budget that lives within our means, puts Granite Staters first, and doesn’t punish our employers is well within reach. The people of New Hampshire are grateful Governor Sununu is leading our state towards a better budget.”

House Republican Leader Reacts to Governor’s Veto of Budget

Concord, NH – House Republican Leader Dick Hinch (R-Merrimack) released the following statement in response to the Governor’s veto of HB1 and HB2.

“Republicans in the House stood united against the Democrats’ fiscally irresponsible deficit-ridden spend-a-thon budget, and we fully support the Governor’s decision to veto HB1 and HB2. This budget raises taxes on our citizens, jeopardizes our economic success, and puts us at a real risk for an income tax or capital gains tax in order to dig ourselves out of an impending structural deficit.”

“We must ensure the end product is something that is fiscally responsible, uses realistic revenue estimates, and most importantly, is balanced. I look forward to taking a very active role and working in good faith with our Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate over the summer to come up with a bipartisan product that will benefit our state and not lead to an income tax or capital gains tax.”

Support Governor Sununu’s budget vetoes because it’s your money.
