Can You Name This NH Rep?

In the world as it really is, there are people in positions of power–even power as divided as the New Hampshire State Legislature–who feel entitled to special treatment.  These ‘perks’ come in all forms.  The one pictured above is the ability or ‘right’ to park in a no parking zone without fear of … Read more

Sit Carol Sit

After a brief review of the game film from Rep Carol Shea-Porters–she’s calling them Town Halls–I’ve decided that any and all future interaction could be just as (or perhaps more) productive if we used either a cardboard standee of the congresswoman with three to five pre-recorded responses played by an aid (Assuming there is no loose … Read more

“Deem” Them Voted Out Of Office

If Paul and Carol ‘Deem’ anything passed.  If they allow the Senate bill to self execute.  If they vote on anything that moves the Senate bill from the House, they have voted for everything in the Senate bill by default.  The President can then sign the Senate bill, while the side car dies in the … Read more

Linguists For Hodes

One of the joys of blogging is the anonymous commenters who drop the bottle of Booth’s Dry Gin long enough to type something lucid. Waste

I got a letter today from the US Census.  As a joke, I mockingly said to my wife, "I bet this is a letter telling me about how I’m going to be getting a letter." She laughed. That’s exactly what it was.   Dear Resident: About one week from now. you will receive a 2010 … Read more

Less Than Useless

Remember how Shaheen didn’t have the sense to use her own parties partisan influence buying combine to turn her rubber-stamp vote for Trotsky care into a complete 12 lane rebuild of I-93 from Salem all the way to Hudson bay?  Well there is subterfuge afoot again in the White House and as usual New Hampshire’s left wing wall flowers either can’t get into the dance, or don’t have their figurative political bra stuffed enough to attract the eye of the people with any real influence.

Of course, knowing Shaheen, if it had occurred to her she’d have used her vote to form a blue-ribbon committee, to promote a wind farm contract, to create or save jobs for her lawyer buddies who would  rake in millions from taxpayers and government funded Green groups fighting both sides of an environmental impact lawsuits for twelve years; well past her impending single term as a US senator from New Hampshire.  But at least  her, Billy, and former congressman Paul Hodes would have work when they got out so maybe she’s not stupid, she’s just selfish.

Anyway, I bring it up because Red State reports that

Last week, Democratic Senate Candidate Joe Sestak, a retired Admiral, let slip in an interview that someone in the White House offered him a position in the Administration if he would drop his primary challenge of Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania.

This is of course illegal. Federal law prohibits anyone from offering, soliciting, or receiving any federal office in exchange for a political favor, and it looks like the White House tried to get Sestak to drop his challenge of Arlen Specter.  Don’t be surprised if you can’t hear any sirens wailing.

Carol Shea Porter: “Not going back and forth on the Constitution”

Here is 1st CD Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter –in response to a question at Saturday’s Portsmouth, NH town hall meeting– reading a prepared statement provided for her as to why nationalizing the health care system and mandating insurance is, in fact, Constitutional. This comes days after a blunder in which she took heat for claiming the Constitution … Read more

Speaking truth to power.

Mr. Alford is a free speech hero. If only more people had the same temerity, soundness of mind, and purpose when confronting our so-called "public servants" like Barbara Boxer…     [H/T AllahPundit via Conservative Grapevine]

Not government-approved news, I guess

A letter to Representative Robert Thompson of Manchester regarding his ignorance of American history and the Constitution

Constitution

I sent an email to Rep. Thompson reacting to a post at Cornerstone Policy Research about a response Mr. Thompson gave to one of that group’s supporters. From Cornerstone:

So, it seems that once again one of our elected officials are of the opinion that we will just believe anything they write…

The latest case being State Representative, Robert Thompson of Manchester, who recently sent what appears to be a “stock” response to one of our Cornerstone supporters…

After our supporter sent Rep. Thompson an email urging him to not support The Bathroom Bill, HB415, as it would trample on religious liberties among other reasons, Rep. Thompson replied that not only does “religion have no place in government”, but that the founding fathers were so concerned about this, that they added a “separation of church and state” clause into the Constitution.

Click here to read the whole post, including Thompson’s offending note.

This is my response to him:

Rep. Thompson,
How could you be such a boob as to write the following false statement in an email:

"Secondly, I certainly feel that religion has no place in government. Our founding fathers, who wrote the constitution, were very concerned about religion interfering with law making and included a separation of church and state into the constitution. This is a very important part of our constitution that has seemed to have gotten away from us. The Judeo-Christian values our country were founded on are important but do not belong in government."

Robby, You’ve obviously never bothered to read the Constitution, or much of anything one might guess. The U.S. Constitution only refers to religion once in the 1st Amendment where it guarantees freedom OF religion, and that means religion of the public square. Your red-herring concept of a separation was first mentioned in a letter by Mr. Jefferson to the Danbury, CT Baptists who were complaining to him when he was POTUS years AFTER the Constitution had been written and ratified that they thought it was unfair that they had to pay taxes that went to support the CT state religion at the time which was Congregationalism, because contrary to your moronic lack of knowledge about American history, the respective states had official state religions well into the 19th century. That so-called "separation" Jefferson coined referred to government having no power over religious liberty among the various states, including their 10th amendment right to establish state religions which they did in fact have. You shouldn’t even be a legislator, you’re so ignorant of the laws governing this land and even the history of New England where you reside..  It’s uneducated buffoons like you that make our democracy as horribly fragile as it’s recently become.

Furthermore, on religion in "government" as you ridiculously call it, in your attempt to set up a straw man,…John Adams who knew a helluvalot more than I would dare say you do, especially when it comes to the documents he was involved in drafting and ratifying, but even more so on questions of wisdom…political, moral and otherwise, said the following:

Et tu, Judd? Oh well. At least I’ve got a good supply of those spiffy little notepads with his picture on it to remind me of him after he’s gone…

Judd Gregg

Famous Judd Gregg notepad– Gracing many a political banquet place-setting since 1993.

When I got my Union Leader out of the tube early this morning and saw the blurb on the left hand side of the front page touting a story about Senator Judd Gregg and the ongoing bailout-mania, I nearly choked on my coffee when I read the words:

Adding to the federal deficit with an economic stimulus package should lead to greater long-term fiscal stability for the federal government, as well as greater productivity and economic competitiveness, U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg said yesterday.

Huh? Spending more money that we DON’T have will HELP our long-term fiscal stability? I can’t think of any big-spending, government loving liberals that could have articulated their beliefs more clearly than has Judd with the above sentiment. Has he completely lost his mind? Having announced his intention to run for yet another term in the Senate in 2010, is his plan to throw all of his supposed long-standing conservatism (and the conservatives that rely on him) out the window? The last thing we need in the next two years– one dominated by a Democratic ruling majority– is another key Republican "leader" dishing out "Democrat-lite."

Conventional wisdom held by many Republicans and Independents alike is that part of the reason the GOP finds itself on the outside looking in is because they blew it when it came to any pretense of fiscal restraint. Now, when taking on the Democrats– the REAL pros when it comes to taxing hard-working, productive Americans and giving it away to the many takers– they have no credibility… and we all suffer (and our children’s children’s children).

Perhaps someone should remind Senator Gregg of the words of another Republican that shows the extent to which he has strayed. From Ronald Reagan’s First Inaugural Address:

No good deed goes unpunished…

good samaritan

Thankfully, lawyers were scarce in Biblical days…

The story out of California regarding the "good samaritan" being sued after pulling her friend from a car following a horrific automobile accident is both disturbing– and uplifting. From Overlawyered.com:

California’s Supreme Court has ruled 4-3 that the state’s “Good Samaritan” law providing tort immunity for rescuers applies only to medical personnel providing medical help at an emergency scene, and not to civilians.

“Although the law does not distinguish between types of emergency care, the court majority said the context shows it was meant to be limited to medical care. The law was part of a package of legislation on emergency medical services, Justice Carlos Moreno said in the majority opinion.” (SF Chronicle).

Unless you’ve got medical training, then, think twice about offering to help.

This is just so wrong. How many times have we watched news stories depicting some poor injured person someplace (the man hit by a car in Hartford, CT some months back comes to mind as but one example) in need with people passing by without helping? Generally most people become outraged at such callousness. But now, thanks to the idiots on the California Supreme Court, this might end up being the rule. After all, why risk your own well-being and station in life? The Overlawyered post continues:

Docbloggers have been discussing the decision since then, with GruntDoc siding with the dissent, SymTym countering on behalf of the majority, and Throckmorton reporting that even being on the right side of the law isn’t enough to provide reassurance nowadays:

“Most of my colleagues are afraid to stop at the scene of an accident and render aid for fear of being sued. The Good Samaritan Law is supposed to prevent this fear of suits but no one seems to believe that it will offer any protection.”

Nice, eh? No wonder people dislike lawyers so much… deservedly so. But, through this, there is one bit of good news, showing that despite all the stupidity, all is not bad. There are indeed, still good people left that really do get it: The Boy Scouts of America. And they have been on this, apparently, since the start of this sad affair. From BSA Legal.org:

Democrats “ruining” our state… Really?
