Facebook Doodlings – Why is it the job of the Feds to rehab 35,000 schools?
Yet another instance of spending time writing somewhere else instead of writing here, so, am double purposing yet again. This thread from FB was from Sept (yeah, catching up as always) when Obama wanted to spend $25 Billion (more of what we don’t have) to rehab up to 35,000. Once again the question must be asked (yes, edited to be more bloggish):
Why is it the Federal Govt’s job to “rehab 35,000 schools”?
If the local communities have so bungled their OWN infrastructure so badly, why is it that the rest of us have responsibility to fund it just because Obama says so? Where’s the accountability in that?
And the last part of that is couched in those terms because education has generally been a local activity and not a federal one. Here in NH, it IS local – every year for the last six years, I have reviewed my town’s school budget as part of my hamlet’s Budget Committee (which actually prepares the budgets that all of the town’s voters vote up or down). As part of doing that, I have learned the hardware that tax monies get sucked out of the local scene, filter through the DC bureaucracy, get strings attached, and then a relatively small percentage comes back to the folks that forked it out in the first place. You can be sure that this “free money” as everyone else is kowtowing to get (under the rubric of blatant greed of “if we don’t take it, someone else will” – just like kindergarteners who are afraid they won’t get their Twinkie snack).
Well, it seemed to one commenter that the right answer was “Sure!”; after all “because nobody else wants to do it”? In other words, if the locals decide to do nothing, then his implicit answer is the Feds must do it by default. My retort was:
You think the Feds should because the locals won’t? Shouldn’t the Feds be smart enough not to fall for that Tom Sawyer fence whitewash trick?
Yes, I started to get a bit hot under the collar as I have with others – it seems with folks like the commenter, their expectation is that the Feds are supposed to right all ills – when the locals are judged to have not done the job, it has to be made right by spending other folks money. Wrong answer, as it penalizes those communities that ARE doing the right things.

Where is Democrat Support for Obama’s Jobs Bill?
Three weeks ago President Obama told Congress and the American people it was essential to “pass this jobs plan right away“. Since then he has crisscrossed the country promoting his plan and suggesting that Republicans don’t want to create American jobs. That is a lie.
Out of about 250 Congressional Democrats only Senator Reid has sponsored the President’s jobs bill, no Congressman has sponsored it. After publicly calling for a quick vote on the jobs bill, Senator Reid has quietly delayed the vote. Apparently many Democrats oppose the President’s bill.

Obama’s “Bride Of Stimulus” Speech
I wasn’t going to bother, but when you have a title like “Bride of Stimulus” you have to run with it. And that is exactly what that speech was. To quote every democrat’s greasy palm card from 2007/2008, what we have here is…”the same old failed polices of the past.” Or what I referred to on twitter as “same old whore new dress.”
US House kills TARP
I’d be interested to hear the rhetoric from Political consultant and former congressman Paul Hodes who claimed he was against TARP but voted to spend paid back TARP funds on other left-wing stimuli.

In recognition of finding the Bahama’s, public service union employees all across the fruited plain, get a paid day off. I’m not sure we need to “explore” this any further to get to the nexus of thought on the why’s and what for’s in this decision making process.
Can You See The Signs?
The Shahodesheaporter New Hampshicrat trio gave us the stimulus, all the waste and crony handouts buried inside it, the stupid rules that knee-capped job regular creation as only bureaucracy can, and the debt. Oh yeah–they spent 20 million on signs to tell us they were spending billions on…nothing.
Another Biden Three Letter Word…Failure
Underestimating, miscalculating, failing to anticipate, these are all excuses used by the democrats for a long caravan of failures that are more the product of blind trust by left-wing sheeple in the judgment of an administration that has been way over its head on every issue…since day one.
One of the biggest is the Stimulus. Morgen Richmond over at Big Government has some actual numbers comparing the White House forecasts to actual Bureau of Labor figures over the last year. The point of course being that they sold you the all new 2009 Obama Stimulusmobile, (fashioned after the classics socialist economic models of the past) and it turned out to be a lemon just like it’s predecessors.
The affects should be far reaching. Almost every air breather with a (D) not only bought the plan, they sold it as if their lives depended on it. Not only were they stupid to believe it, they were wrong. Way wrong. So now they are pretending it worked. Sure it did.

Under Norelli’s Rule
Yesterday Terie Norelli celebrated my Birthday by taking to the pages of the Keene Sentinel to talk about what a great job the New Hampshire democrat party has been doing with the state. One of the things she’d like you to believe is that they have created (or saved?) a job friendly environment that has allowed the Granite State to recover more quickly than other states. But is that really true, and do democrats have anything at all to do with it?
It is a matter of fact that under the left New Hampshire has grown the size of state government and its regulatory nature. They have increased taxes and fees. While Ms. Norelli opines all the additional regulations they have added to inspire growth in the job market—and thus the economy—this is like someone handing you a tiny cup of water to put out a raging fire they started and then expecting you to thank them.
About the only thing they can claim is having inherited an ages old State formula that used to create jobs and growth. One they have tinkered with to the point of destruction. And things are not–as Norelli would like you to believe– heading in the right direction.

Harry Reid’s Innocent Victims
They are making hay and BS sandwiches over at Boo-Hoo Hampshire, this time about the latest unemployment benefits stalemate. Dean Barker–the Boo Hoo Guru–had begun by waxing on the CBS news coverage on the latest unemployment extension debate when he decided to lament (or perhaps invent) 30 years of GOP policy crushing the little guy, and how even now they are somehow still pulling the levers to crush them even more. No I’m serious.
But the best part is the “Boo-Hoo” hook.
The innocent victims, Mr. and Ms. Joe Taxpayer, won’t get what they need to stay solvent. And nearly one of ten of them can’t find work. And that’s not counting the vast underemployed.
