PO’d Republicans

.
Former NH state senator Rob Boyce has written an interesting analysis of the last election. Guess what? It’s OUR fault- the conservatives… well, not me, because I voted. Anyway, this is what Bob has to say:

Democrat voters not to blame

With all the mess being caused by the Democrats in Congress and in states all across the country it is not the Democrat voters nor the squishy ill-defined “moderate” or “independent” voters nor the Republican voters who actually showed up last fall to vote that are to blame.
.
No the blame lies with the conservatives – Hillary’s “Vast right wing conspiracy” – those who stayed home. I’ve heard from many friends who thought staying home would “give a spanking” to the members of congress who – spent too much – wouldn’t close the border – weren’t conservative enough. These are the ones who claim to be Reaganites but forgot that one of Reagan’s prime messages was that someone who is with you 75% of the time is your friend not your enemy.
.
Those congressmen and women who were tossed out last fall sure got a spanking but it is the country that is paying. The “I won’t vote ‘cause they are not conservative enough” crowd bears the whole blame. I’ve analyzed the numbers in New Hampshire (easier to crunch numbers in one small state than the whole country) and what I found was: in the two Congressional districts, both GOP incumbents were not considered very conservative – Charley Bass in district 2 even touted his record of not voting with the GOP majority. Both had easily won re-elections in 2004. I looked at ’04 because it was the last non presidential election.
.
What the numbers tell me is that : 1) The Democrat challenger picked up votes from the ‘04 election. 2) Both incumbents lost votes from ’04. 3) Neither challenger picked up enough votes to beat the GOP incumbent’s ’04 numbers.
.
What were missing were the p*ssed off Republican conservatives. They stayed home.

The Democrats’ Dilemma– Another example

In yesterday’s VLog, I captured what I think is the essence of the problems the Democrats face as the reality of governing and having to make decisions sets in. It is one thing to rail against some issue, in today’s case, the war, without having to provide a solution. If you can accept the reality of … Read more

President Bush slams the Dems

In this week’s radio address, President Bush discusses the passage of the outragous suplemental appropriations bill passed by Democrats over the objections of many people who believe we can win the war. He also talks about Democrat spending and looming tax increases that will result. He really slams the Dems hard in thiis one. If only he had been doing this for the last 6 years, he might be working with a Republican Congress instead of what we have now…
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. In recent days, the House and Senate each passed emergency war spending bills that undercut our troops in the field. Each of the Democrats’ bills would substitute the judgment of politicians in Washington for that of our generals on the ground. Each bill would impose restrictive conditions on our military commanders. Each bill would also set an arbitrary deadline for surrender and withdrawal in Iraq, and I believe that would have disastrous consequences for our safety here at home.
.
The Democrats loaded up their bills with billions of dollars in domestic spending completely unrelated to the war, including $3.5 million for visitors to tour the Capitol, $6.4 million for the House of Representatives’ Salaries and Expenses Account, and $74 million for secure peanut storage. I like peanuts as much as the next guy, but I believe the security of our troops should come before the security of our peanut crop. For all these reasons, that is why I made it clear to the Democrats in Congress, I will veto the bill.
Hear hear! I must admit that the President, along with other Republicans like McCain et al, have done a pretty good job at pasting the Democrats on the so-called "pork" loaded in the bill. He continues:

Democrat follies. I’m lovin’ it!

As a political activist and observer of the passing scene, I could not have scripted a better story than that which is unfolding before our eyes within the NH Democratic party regarding their choice of Ray Buckley as the face of the party. As I noted previously,
I’m glad the NH Democratic Party has chosen Buckley as their standardbearer. It may help NHerites better understand what they bargain for when they elect Dems to vital positions in the state government. He may cause the thinking voter to think twice before casting a ballot for a member of "Buckley’s Party".
I further opined that not all Democrats would be pleased with this choice. Why would they take a chance on someone that might bring turmoil and embarassment due to some as yet unforeseen revelation that might pop up down the road? It turns out that a couple of key Democrats thought beyond the moment in a display (temporary, I’m sure) of intellectual honesty that few of their fellow comrades saw fit to bring to the debate in the job of replacing outgoing (and extremely effective) party chair Kathy Sullivan. Sunday’s New Hampshire Union Leader reports:
[NH Congressman Paul] Hodes addressed the controversy early in the meeting, during a time set aside for Congressional briefings, and before the vote on the amendment to allow write-in votes.
.
Hodes first said he "probably was uncharacteristically unartful or undiplomatic" in his initial response to the Buckley videos. He said he was in part concerned about "the process" being undertaken to elect Buckley. "I simply felt that a process of changing the rules midstream was not the way to do things at this point, that it is a bad precedent," he said.

But Hodes said he also was concerned the party "could be exposed to distractions over these next two years."

"For me it was an issue and is an issue of what’s in the best long-term interest of the party," he said.
At that point, according to the story, Mr. Hodes was cut off from saying anything further on the matter, being ruled out of order. Ha! One of the few people in the entire meeting trying to talk some sense, and he’s gagged. I’m just lovin’ every minute of it!

The Buckley Scandal: Is Gov. Lynch going to get caught in the splatter when it hits the fan?

Attorney Ed Mosca submits the following piece on the unfolding Ray Buckley scandal. You’ve heard part of the story: famed NH Dem activist Ray Buckley, candidate for that party’s state committee chair, had to withdraw due to allegations which, if true, are damning, to say the least…
IF RAY BUCKLEY HAS NOTHING TO HIDE,
THEN WHY ARE THE DEMOCRATS HIDING HIM?
(AND WHO DID LYNCH TELL, AND WHAT AND WHEN DID HE TELL THEM?)
In quitting the race for state chairman of the Democrat Party, Ray Buckley unequivocally denied allegations which, according to press reports (the allegations themselves have not been published), involve child pornography:  “These politically motivated allegations are completely false. I have no doubt that the allegations will be proven baseless but I am angry beyond belief that the politics of personal destruction have come to New Hampshire.”  The obvious question brought to mind by Buckley’s remonstration is this:  Why, if the allegations are “completely false” and “baseless,” did Buckley nonetheless quit the state chairmanship race, which by all accounts he already had sewn up?  The apparent answer is that Governor Lynch made it known that he wanted Buckley to step down, which in turn raises this question: Why did the Governor ax Buckley?
.
The answer is easy to surmise.  If the allegations are “false” and “baseless” as Buckley claims, then there are no witnesses or physical evidence, which would have resulted in the pending criminal investigation being resolved in Buckley’s favor well in advance of the March 29th election for Democrat state chairman.  In other words, porn-gate unlike phone-gate would have turned out to be a tempest in a tea pot.  Presumably what happened is that when the Governor’s politicos asked Buckley the predictable question whether it was possible that he could be found guilty of any crimes and thereby embarrass the Governor if the Governor continued to support Buckley, Buckley did not answer in the negative.  The question is whether this conversation with Buckley occurred at a time and in a manner that could have compromised the criminal investigation by tipping off Buckley and allowing him to destroy evidence.
.
One report suggested that current Democrat state chairman Kathy Sullivan refused to say whether investigators had seized computers from state Democrat headquarters.  Nonetheless, she did say that “Raymond will be exonerated, and I believe he will be vindicated of these politically motivated charges.”  Pay attention to the words chosen by Attorney Sullivan.  She clearly knows the substance of the allegations against Buckley and the identity of the alleger.  This brings us back to the Governor.
