GrokTV: NHListens / Granite State Future – Circle “AAAA”

Well, during the recording of circle “BBBB”, I bet you’ve noticed that, on occasion, I panned over to one of the other groups.  Primary reason?  Well, the Scribe over there was writing a whole bunch more than this group (including when Tim Carter got up, walked to the front of the group to explain to the Scribe that her notes needed updating as she “missed” an important part (i.e., that verbiage said during the conversation that mentioned “NH’s strong believe in private property is a barrier to the aims of the Granite State Future plan” was completely left off the easel).  So, I asked Molly, if I could set up another camera to cover group “AAAA” easel due to its activity – and she agreed.

Why?  An experiment – knowing I was over in one place, I wanted to see if anything would keep this camera from seeing the easel at any time.  And yes, when I got to the end of watching the entire thing, I was not surprised to see how things turned out:

  • The Scribe who had been standing to the side during the time before the camera was set up adjusted her behavior to mostly stand in front of it.  Sure, it blocked the camera view but I also thought it rude for that circle’s attendees as there was little opportunity for them to look up and see what was going on.
  • Even as Molly agreed to the camera, she blocked it a couple / few times.
  • At one point, the camera itself was moved

Flashlights, I guess, are not well loved.  All that said,  I was surprised to see that the same roles I identified over at Circle “BBBB” were replicated in this circle as well.  Now, I thought that it was happening,  as during the event, I could actually hear some of the discussions happening over there even as I was engrossed over here (imagine that even in my middle aged state of being, I can still multi-task (sorta)).  So instead of perhaps having to eat crow, it reinforced what I saw in circle “BBBB”.  Once again I will state – if I had been a participant, I would not have seen the pattern.  Observing it once was enough and twice was confirmation.

Warning – the audio is extremely pour – if a shotgun mic isn’t going to make sense of this noise in the room, a simple FlipCam mic is not going to rise and jump over that bar…and it is an hour and twenty minutes long.  So I listened for you:

GrokTV: NHListens / Granite State Future – Circle “BBBB” Parts 1, 2, & 3

After talking with Tim Carter of the Lakes Region TEA Party and listening to the Intro remarks by John Krebs and Molly Donovan, it was time to start observing “how” the “what” was going to happen.  As I said in the Intro post, I was not there to participate but to merely observe.  To recap some of what I had observed thus far:

  • A strictly controlled meeting agenda of questions and issues
  • A division of the prospective audience / attendees into “circles” consisting of about 10 people (remember that number)
  • Paid “Facilitators” and “Scribes that are to guide the “conversations” and to “take notes” – in this case, paper easels

The meeting lasted just about two hours so there is a lot of video.  Again, I apologize for the relatively low sound quality (even though I was using a shotgun mic that is supposed to mitigate that – sometimes room acoustics trump technology.  I’ll have a few more observations from observing NOT just the circle that I chose to record (circle “BBBB”), but another one as well (to be explained later).  Now to be sure, NONE of the segment / clips are NOT what I would call riveting and jaw dropping excitement video – in fact, they are rather boring if you are expecting “gotcha” moments.  However, I did see some rather interesting dynamics being played out – not only in how each small group was run (and make no mistake – by the end of the evening, it became VERY clear that these were not just simple listening session) but the dynamics between the two poles of the culture / political worlds too.  First Segment here with two more after the jump – and yes, there will be more posts with more later as well as a single post on the other circle I “observed after the fact”.  Each of these 3 three videos runs about 9 to 10 minutes; here is Part 1:

GrokTV: NHListens / Granite State Future – Circle “BBBB” Parts 4 and 5

Continuing on from Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the NHListens “visioning” meeting at the Meredith Plymouth Senior Center (NH).  Thus far, the important takeaways that I have observed thus far:

  • A strictly controlled meeting agenda of questions and issues
  • A division of the prospective audience / attendees into “circles” consisting of about 10 people (remember that number)
  • Paid “Facilitators” and “Scribes that are to guide the “conversations” and to “take notes” – in this case, paper easels
  • The “Enforcer” – tasked with being the person who would argue with anyone that was challenging the narrative.

and a new one to add:

  • The Enabler(s) – those folks that dribble in “talking points” during the discussion usually at the most opportune times to be “slick and smooth”

This seemed to emerge in Part 3 (2 minute mark) when Susan started in on talking about Smart Growth principles, caught herself, and started to label them as if they were traditional New Hamspshire ones (instead of being cooked up by “Planners” that know better then we how and where we should live – certainly NOT a Live Free or Die Sentiment, or a Liberty & Freedom one either).  So, let’s return to my phrase: “and remember that number 10!“.  Next up is Part 4 which starts to show another dynamic right off the bat – those that are perfectly fine with a forced collectivism concerning land use, community priorities, taxes, and services, and those that believe that the voters have things right:

GrokTV: NHListens / Granite State Future – Intro

Well, after running into Tim Carter at the Meredith (NH) Senior Center for the latest NHListens versioning of what our “collective future” is supposed to be with respect to the Granite State Future collectivist Utopia (after all, once taxes are used to socially engineer our behavior in our living conditions, our living standards, the modes of transportation that are allowed, we are no longer free but live solely at the mercy of others planning our lives – like that has worked out so well in other countries?).  Well, after I got done interviewing Tim, I went on inside.

Anyways, back to describing how this “listening” session would work:

Belknap County Republican Committee (3/13/13) – NH GOP Chair, Jennifer Horn

The featured speaker of last Wednesday night’s Belknap County Republican meeting was the new NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn.  She talked about some of the issues that confront the State Party and some of the ways she is going to try to mitigate them.

Please note that there is a section of her speech that I have deliberately not show dealing with fundraising.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (Progressive-NH) blows off constituent concerns; deja vu all over again?

Heck, I’m still waiting for her to fulfill her promise that she made to me during her first time in Congress – so why am I not surprised?  After all, back in 2008 she told a Republican woman, a member of one of NH’s “main Republican families”, to her face that “You are not my constituent” because of her party affiliation (even though she lived in Carol SEIU-Porter’s district).  Well, another loyal reader has had a run in with Carol Shea-Porter’s cubicle minions – here is the sordid tale of trying to get a simple answer to a simple question on drones:

So, last week, I made a few phone calls to our “representatives” in DC. My concern was the possibility of drone strikes on any America citizen deemed a “terrorist” ON American soil. Well, as you well know, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, many of the Tea Party affiliated folks are considered “terrorists.” Shocking? You bet! But fact. Anyhow, I called Kelly’s office and was assured she would not be supporting anything such as this act which could strike someone without due process, no trial, no defense … etc. I called Sen. Shaheen’s office and spoke to a nice young woman who said that she would give my thoughts to the Senator. (Sorry, I actually did get the names of the people I spoke to at the Senators’ offices, but I have misplaced that note at this point.) Then I called Ms. Shea-Porter’s office, where I was confronted with a less-than-cordial young woman staffer. When I told her that I wanted to know where Ms. S-P stood on the drone strike on American soil issue, the girl acted as though she knew nothing about it. I asked her to ask the Congresswoman please stand up for the Constitution, and support our rights, since this arbitrary way of using drones on American soil on American people was a complete contradiction of our Constitutional rights to a fair trial and due process. She started laughing. I was outraged. I hung up.

Below is the letter I received today in answer to my phone call.

Anwar Al-Awlaki????? Really???? A form letter? Oh goody. If it’s not her sending them, it’s Jeanne Shaheen. How very personal. And my name is misspelled. This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what I called for. Argh. To deal with this situation for another 2 years!

Belknap County Republican Committee (3/13/13) – Vesta Roy, Belknap County Budget

Well, these should have gone with the “intro” post, but that’s OK – blogging means never having to recycle pixels if you don’t want to.  The Vesta Roy is a training program for Republican women and given that the Belknap County Convention just finished setting up its budget (along with cry baby Commissioners), NH State Rep Frank Tilton gave the attendees an update.

Data Point – Unemployment rate EVEN with Obama’s Stimulus

(Image H/T: AEIdeas) Drop outs from the Labor force at all time high: 89,304,000 The Corner:   Were the unemployment rate today measured against the same workforce participation as when President Obama took office four years ago, the unemployment rate today would be 10.7 percent.

Belknap County – final Budget Meeting

As with many towns, the Counties around New Hampshire are also constructing their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year.  Here in Belknap, two Republicans (John Thomas and Steve Nedeau) and a Democrat (Ed Philpot) crafted a budget that would raise the County’s portion of the property tax by approximately 9% – this in a time still beset economically with rising taxes at the State level (certainly, the Democrats are already hard at work doing that in Concord), rising taxes at the Federal Level (again, thank you Democrats), and the people looking at their thinning wallets every time they fill up their cars and see how few bags of groceries are bought for $25, $50, or $100 (inflation – the hidden government tax on us all).  However, the County Convention (the 18 elected NH House Representatives from all of the districts in Belknap County) has the final authority over that budget – and new Conservative leadership elected to head that Convention (led by the Chair Collete Worseman) reduced that percentage to 0.3%.  What did it take?

Simple – Leadership, a “say what you mean, do what you say” attitude.  A political courage to go against the grain of those that have no problem in spending other peoples’ money, the rent-seekers called social services that live at the teat of Government and have transformed themselves from being charities to mere outgrowths of that Government (or many as many levels and parts of Government they can latch onto), and the biggest Special Interest of all – Government itself.  Sticking to ones guns and Conservative values.  A willingness to put themselves between the hard working taxpayers and those that would spend their money by ensuring that essential services would be present – but not extraneous expenditures or “pet ideas”.

Government above people.  The Bigger the Government, the smaller the citizen.

Here is the final vote:

The full meeting (chopped into approximately 15 minute chunks each) after the jump.  And yes, there were heated words said, for not only has this been about Dollars but also about Power and Political Turf.

And Obama makes three….

Worthy sayings of worthy Presidents?  Wonderful legacies all… (H/T: Instapundit via Powerline)

“I wonder how the other Groksters are faring in the midst of the destruction….”

Tim posed that question yesterday, my answer is “Not too shabby, actually”.  Sure, just like the Federal Government, I had to take a 2% haircut financially earlier this year (1/1/13) as  Obama decided that His Progressive policy to “better perfect” tax policies, decreed that I had to give up not paying the FICA tax that His Highness earlier had decreed was necessary to “better perfect” our tax policies.  I still am not sure which was the better “better perfect” perfection I’m supposed to believe in.

Go figure – Progressive Perfection policies; how do they keep straight faces with this kind of stuff?  In the mean time, I had to “perfect” a lesser personal budget quick.

Then I had to do it again (“better perfect” my personal budget).  You see, even while the Feds haircut just started yesterday as His Excellency decreed that His Progressive policies had to “better perfect” our healthcare, my cost went up – and a whole lot more than by 2%.  In fact, string a bunch of 2% cuts together and that adds up.  Plus, with his “perfection” of His Progressive energy policy, my weekly grocery bill has soared (as corn crops are  turned into ethanol that eats our car engines) and my gas bill is mirroring it.  So, I have to make do with even less.  I guess this is the way that Progressives wish to “perfect us” to be better people.  Maybe I am doing more shabby than I thought….yet, His Head Honchoness is still crying that that SequesApocolypse would crash society simply because Government programs and bureaucrats would get 2.4% less to spend: 2 cents out of every dollar.

How come that 2% out of their Government wallet means more to them than they think it is taking it out of our wallets?
