There’s a lot of discussion just now about Eddie Edwards’s decision to pull out of the first Republican Congressional District 1 (CD1) debate rather than sign a pledge to support the eventual primary winner.

Is he showing ‘character’, and ‘standing up for his principles’, by refusing to sign the pledge?  That’s one way of looking at it.  Another is that he’s indicating a basic misunderstanding of what a political party is for, and what it means to belong to one.  He’s not alone.

Three Steps to Smaller Government

Here in New Hampshire, the Republican party — the ‘party of small government’ — controls both houses of the legislature and the governor’s office.  But government continues to grow.  Why?  Because in order to actually shrink government, three reforms are necessary, and none of them are in place.

(1) Everything, including existing RSAs and agency regulations, must sunset after a reasonably brief period, like 10 years.

GraniteGrok reports: Annual Belknap County GOP Lake Winnipesaukee Cruise – Steve Negron

Following Brian Belanger was his friend, Steve Negron.  Both are running for the US House of Representatives in NH’s Second Congressional District.  Like the others, Steve addressed the crowd on the M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Note: it seems that a number of the candidates are prior military – many of them Air Force such as Steve Negron (Major, retired, Missile command).  Turns out that David Webb, the MC, is a prior Marine – and was egged on a bit by Al Baldasaro.  I think you’ll enjoy that the inter-branch rivalry that was brought up.

They Like to Try to Weaponize Our Morality Against Us

Go Pound SandKurt Schlichter has invested some time to help the peeps deal with progressive mic-drop rubbish designed to prevent debate or silence dissent. He calls them obnoxious liberal argument cheats. And he’s got a reliable answer for each that I’ve advocated for years. So read them all. But I wanted to share at least one of his scenarios because this one comes at us from all sides.

They like to try to weaponize our morality against us, which is hilarious since they hate morality almost as much as they hate us. They create some sort of moral test, usually out of thin air, and then announce you have failed it. One of the best was the recent “Splitting up families of undocumented workers is not who we are!” Except it is who we are. We split up the families of criminals all the time and we should – there’s no nursery in San Quentin for a reason.

New Hampshire’s Bipartisan Cultural Elites

Mr. Trump won the presidency on an issue no one else in the ruling class took seriously. Immigration, border control, and the very definition of what it meant to be American. For years the cultural elites in Washington and across the nation have shared a growing disinterest in the idea of citizenship. Their reactions have run the gamut from patronizing to insults. Republicans pander to narratives while Democrats call them xenophobes, racists, and even white supremacists. Policies and priorities that resulted in the opioid crisis, and a range of national security issues.

Trump won because citizenship means something, and securing that something matters. And when we look at New Hampshire, we have a similar problem just waiting for someone to capitalize on it. “Border control” for voting purposes.

WTF: Senate Republicans – Losing is Winning

It was a busy week for the call sign Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. We had five or six solid contenders. But did this one take the crown? Senate Republicans fumble a show-vote on the Iran Treaty then declare a day later that losing is winning.  

GOP Promises not kept

The Republicans asked for the majority to fix things like ObamaCare and big government and when the voters gave them that majority what did they do with it? Great, Just What We Need, More Anti-Republican Crap

When I first announced the return of GrokTALK! a few weeks ago, in pursuit of likely guests, the very first response I got on my status update from a Republican Facebook page was, “Great, just what we need, more anti-Republican crap.”

In some respects yes, but not because the objects of our remarks happen to “claim” to be Republicans.  It would be a result of their behaving as something other than a Republican.  (And yes, I probably am a better arbiter of who is or is not behaving like a Republican, as we shall see shortly.)

And while we (I will include all of us on the Grok) are more than willing to accept the 80-20 rule in a general sense, there are specific issues and some votes that are just too important to let slide.

And when Party leadership itself does stupid things, yes–we will be all over that, as any regular reader already knows.
