What Is Likely To Happen With Gun Control Following The Midterms?

By Sam Bocetta

2018 has been notable for many reasons in regards to the political landscape, but something very notable about this election cycle is how gun control has taken center stage to the point that it’s become a chief focal point of many campaigns for local, state, and Federal offices.

The reason for this is simple: the push for gun control is much stronger this year than it has been in years previously.  Whereas guns used to be a ‘side issue’ so to say, now they are undoubtedly a front and center issue for the 2018 midterms.

But the real question is this: since gun control is now officially one of the hottest political topics in the political arena, what is likely to happen concerning the issue once the midterms are over and we have a new Congress in January?

Experts Can’t Quite Put a Finger On Why NH’s Violent Crime Rate is so Low

From today’s Union Leader, front page, “NH Has 3rd Lowest Violent Crime rate.”

The Granite State had the third-lowest rate of violent crime in 2017 — 198.7 incidents per 100,000 residents — trailing only Vermont (165.8) and Maine (121). Violent crime was down slightly nationwide, and it was the second year in a row that New Hampshire’s rate decreased.

Why? Expert opinions vary.

Antifa: now taking away BOTH our First and Second Amendment Rights?

Antifa – the new brownshirts of the Democrat Socialists.  It really is what they are – the newest version of the Klan and the Nazi / Mussolini brownshirts; few leading Democrats have it suitable to disavow their riot provoking activities.  To summarize in simple terms, these “anti-fascists” believe that not all speech is permissible and that “hate speech” (which is anything to which they disagree with) is the same as actual physical violence.  Hence, they have the RIGHT to stop you from speaking in any way that they can, including fists, elbows, knees, legs, boots, bats, shields, tear gas, knives, and of course, swinging bike locks.  Dressed in black

Sidenote: even notice that the leading Leftists, especially in tech and the artsy-fartsy, pretty much just dress all in black?  I wonder….

with helmets, goggles, and face-hiding bandanas, they go about their merry way in beating the crap out of you and that makes them feelz good about themselves that they’ve shut you up and shut you down. Now, they’re moving on to the next article in the Bill of Rights – and they still don’t believe they are the ones that are the real fascists?

Quick Thought – Gosh, TMEW asks the same thing!

Doesn’t matter where I’m going, she’ll often ask.  If she knows if the area is not a great one, she definitely asks (reformatted, emphasis mine):

This morning, in light of recent events, Bobbi replied to my “I’m headed out” with “Do you have a gun?”  She was asking out of genuine concern, and so I did not reply sardonically with “I’m wearing pants, aren’t I?” or “Am I in the secure area of an airport?” But I’m not carrying a gun because I’m afraid. I’m carrying a gun because carrying a gun is what I do. If I’m dressed, there’s a Gen4 Glock 19 on my person, whether I’m at home or out and about.

I’ll never cancel MY Professorial office hours for such a scaredycat reason

Given that my second go round at being an adjunct Professor starts tomorrow, my interest was piqued when I saw this over at Instapundit (full story from The College Fix after the jump):

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: My professor canceled office hours because KU allows concealed carry, says he ‘no longer feels safe.’

What a wuss – and a failure on the part of a College Professor that is supposed to base themselves on known facts and not on emotions and “feelz”. The fact is that someone who has a CCW (State paperwork allowing concealed carry) is FAR more law-abiding than police.

Israel Rolls Back Restrictions To Arm as Many As a Half-Million More Citizens

Israel is opening up its carry-permit rules so it can arm more law-abiding civilians. “Many civilians saved lives during terror attacks in an era of ‘lone terrorism,’ Erdan said in a statement. “The more skilled civilians carrying weapons, the greater the chance of thwarting attacks without casualties and reducing the number of casualties.” In the … Read more

I love It When The Left Proves Me Right

militant-snowflakeThe really good news is that the Fifth Circuit has rejected a constitutional challenge to campus carry in Texas. The State allows concealed permit holders to carry on college campuses which got some professorial panties in a bunch. The law did not let the Profs prohibit concealed firearms in their own classrooms (some administrative areas on campus are still verboten), so they sued claiming “the law and policy violate(s) the First Amendment, Second Amendment, and Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

The Court tossed it out, but what’s that got to do with the left proving me right? Plenty.
