Rebel Civics: Rethinking Education with Ian Underwood

Ian Underwood explains why we need to rethink education and key areas to change in this 40-minute talk presented at Freedom Palooza in North Country, NH, in July 2026. Ian summarizes three of his books on education covering three areas to rethink.

He recommends changing “fairness” to be about what is learned rather than being about money as it is now, replacing what he refers to as the current “pay and pray” model of education with the standard model of commerce, and limiting schools to things that are mandatory instead of incorporating such a wide variety of things under “education” that schools can’t possibly do anything well.
