Today, on the Morning Update, Democrats have always promised all sorts of “free” things. They also claim they will tax the rich to pay for them. What they don’t tell you is that you, workaday Jane and Joe, are “The Rich” they’re talking about.

Welcome to your Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 morning update. Democrats, before the DSA outed them for who they really are, had already outed themselves. They wanted all that free stuff, free college, healthcare for everybody, blah blah blah.
Well, the DSA has come along and made us all ask: who is this rich guy, and how much money does he actually have? Tax the rich is the mantra, but the mantra is shifting from tax the rich to tax everybody because it has to.
Quote, the Cato Institute added costs for nine large DSA aligned proposals and found a range from 71 trillion to 212 trillion over ten years.
That would be how much they estimate it would cost. I would estimate it would cost more.
The high end drives a two-hundred-trillion headline now echoing in media discussions. That top figure assumes sweeping versions of healthcare, climate, housing, and jobs programs if they were all launched together. The estimate is not an official government score; it is a think tank roll-up designed to test what a full platform might cost at national scale.
So, the outside estimates place single-payer federal costs at around thirty to thirty-three trillion a decade. I would say it’s definitely higher than that. But let’s just say three to four trillion dollars a year.
Climate plans, free college, child care, paid leave, another forty to sixty trillion over ten years, so four to six trillion annually.
Add on top of that the current budget of seven trillion a year.
And we should assume this would get larger because, to manage, deploy, and basically run all the programs they say they’re going to offer us for free, you need a lot more government for that.
Add in fraud, waste, all of that good stuff. So you’re looking at at least another two to four trillion a year.
So now we’re talking twenty trillion a year, two hundred trillion dollars over ten years.
That’s just ten years. That’s every 10 years, and that number goes up: inflation goes up, the cost of everything goes up, access goes down, services go down, quality goes down, but they’re free. Well, no, they’re not, are they?
The top one percent. If they sold every single asset they had, it would give you a one-time payment of forty-three trillion dollars. That’s not going to cover the 200 trillion.
If you took all the money from the wealthiest people who are, let’s say, everybody who has more money than you, you’re still not even going to be able to pay the bill in the first 10 years.
US GDP generates wealth at a rate of roughly 30 to 32 trillion a year right now. You would take two-thirds of that.
The math never works. Now, remember those top nine things that the DSA wants; I don’t remember what they all are, but you could just listen to any Democrat over the last ten years when they thought they had power for the rest of history, and they will tell you. Medicaid or Medicare for All is just a line that they use to get universal health care, which we know is terrible. We also know it’s incredibly expensive. We also know that eventually they will use assisted suicide to save money.
Free college, free everything. Everything they’ve ever talked about. They say it will be free. It won’t, because you will pay for it. Y
ou won’t just pay for it out of pocket. You will pay for decreased access, increased costs, and decreased quality.
And there will still be rich people. They’ll just all be in the government. And you’re not invited. Can’t do it.
Every Democrat wants it. Just don’t vote for them. Problem solved.
That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
