On the subject of hoaxes here’s a new one. Elle magazine advice Columnist E. Jean Carroll accused Donald Trump of rape. The Media and Democrats were glowing, doey-eyed, with rapture. This is it, and then she went on television.
Someone inside Facebook has provided Breitbart News with a document titled “Hate Agent Policy Review.” It describes the circumstances by which the Social Media giant might declare you an agent of hate and filter you accordingly.
If you had not heard yet, Leadership Institute Field Representative Hayden Williams was attacked and beaten at Berkeley. The conservative was tending a table for Turning Points USA when Zachary Greenburg and a second unidentified individual approached him. An altercation ensued that was caught on video.
Student protesters reacted predictably when “racist graffiti” was discovered on their campus. In keeping with the kind of education provided at institutions of “higher” learning. “White supremacists are getting bold under President Trump.” The only problem? The perpetrator was a black student who directed the racism at (drumroll please) himself.
In the wake of any reported “hate crime,” it is important to remember that the majority of these have an annoying habit of turning out to be self-inflicted, often in a desperate effort to get attention. I can’t count how many hate hoax crimes we’ve reported where the victim was, in fact, the perpetrator. This is the Global Warming wildfire version of that. The Fawn fire, which has destroyed 41 homes and burned over 8500 acres, was allegedly started by a former forestry student.
When I think of Yelp!, it reminds me of Friendster, StumbleUpon, Google+, and MySpace. I had little to no use for any of those (experimented on Google+ a bit). So, this latest announcement only affirms my indifference to their existence. Yelp! has decided it will be flagging businesses as racist.
[Updated below] US Senate candidate Corky Messner was scheduled to speak at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. But the title of the talk triggered the snowflakes who (apparently) threatened violence at the mere prospect. (Dartmouth receives significant amounts of taxpayer dollars.)
