Recalling What Made US

by Jim Bowman

Another Blessed Thanksgiving Day; one in which we people always fare better than those helpless turkeys! As mentioned in a previous piece, prior to our special American holiday, fake news outlets echoed about how to cope with certain family members that would come to dine. Just more from their ‘negative influencing’ gig that keeps the political heat alive and further splinters the American family unit.

In the aftermath of the election, the public’s sighs of relief have never been so overwhelming. More importantly, never has an election been so crucially dependent upon the results from such diversity. Also, it’s been quite a while since voting was more in line with safeguarding America and keeping her free rather than toeing the party line. Need I remind you with a Washington warning; “beware of the baneful effects of the Spirit of the Party?” From so long ago, but baneful still means EVIL!

Public opinion has undergone a political rethinking when contrasting the presidential records of the present administration with the previous four years under Trump. Like him or not, what America so desperately needed wasn’t to “turn the page” in the same book, but for some, to hold their breath and bite their lip so as to make America great again!

During this election aftermath, what provides assurance for our future is this look back into what made America work: our past and, in particular, our Constitutional beginnings. More and more, a cross-section of Americans are realizing that our Forefathers’ words are indeed applicable to today’s America. This is contrary to what has been mainstreamed and, in fact, stands out as academia’s likely reason for ignoring this trove of ageless wisdom.

Essentially, what connects their long-ago words with the present is that our founders attempted to erect guards against human nature’s darker side. Our frailties can be teased through various means of self-feeding and prioritizing when holding power. Therefore, the relevance of their writings remains applicable based on nature’s ever-present influence.

What else explains today’s mess other than man’s penchant for power and control? The message is always the same; I DON’T HAVE, HE DOES SO I WANT! Today’s version is garnished with tweaks of discrimination and racism, but it’s still the same old power grab. Never forget that those doing the barking and organizing care not about equity and fair lay but only about power and control!

Such disorder and corruption didn’t happen overnight. As stated, there will always be that control tendency, but when complacency nears acceptance, the results are today! And there is little doubt about America’s laxity, primarily due to its affluence and easy living. The negative with this do-nothing attitude is that similar to those dinner guests with particular beliefs, its stepchild of vulnerability enters the arena. And when this intruder appears, what becomes victimized is the invisible strength of our American fabric!

This sturdy fabric is weaved and interlaced to bind and coordinate all mechanisms, sectors, ambitions, and endeavors into one productive and protective being that has grown into this world leader. Unlike today’s happenings, all this didn’t just appear overnight. Hard work, ingenuity, and daring were its main sponsors.

All this growth was a spin-off from what is today so guarded against. Old time virtues, ethics and high moral standards were its guides. Very telling is that today, those assets have also been either ridiculed or ignored. In their place is this bag of so-called entitlements and subsidies, thus, laziness.

Next month will unfold a new beginning, which should brighten us all up. During these decades of daze, those intent on erasing all that we are—our rich culture, our orderly societies, our high ethical and moral standards, and our love of Country—never stop attacking. Already, we have witnessed our unalienable right of free speech being shredded by their prostituting revisionism of an unalienable right. We all are familiar with the First Amendment, but who knows what “unalienable” means?

That question frames today’s education dilemma. Anything old supposedly is out of date and lacking worth, yet consider this quote from Thomas Jefferson: “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people…They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” Or how about common sense, which tells us that if you don’t know your rights, you don’t have any rights! Or simply, none are so blind as those who refuse to see or so deaf as those who refuse to hear! It seems that such ideas were once again alive last month!
