Union Thuggery -Coming Soon To A State House near You.

WI ThugsI was just thinking back to all the loose talk from the left about ending the gun ban in the New Hampshire State House.  How they imagined someone just unloading over testimony supporting same sex marriage–to use one example–kids getting cut down in the cross-fire.  And how they fell over themselves trying to scare parents into keeping their children from ever visiting the place because it was now just too dangerous.

Then I look at the way the union run leftists in Wisconsin are acting.  How they are storming the state house, climbing in through windows, and forcing people to flee for fear of their well being.  These pro-union forces are pushing against state troopers trying to get past them.  Maybe being let in by union cops.  Just because they demand the ability to collectively bargain for benefits (not wages–they still have that privilege as far as I know.)

What is perhaps more instructive is that the left in New Hampshire supports them.  I’d bet money you will not hear a peep in opposition to any of this from the state leadership of the democrat party.  Nothing about State Senators running away like spoiled children.  Nothing about the hate speech, the Hitler signs, the threats or the aggressive mob tactics and intimidation.  They support that–and by their own rules support it through their silence.

It is (again!) time to get serious about energy

With gasoline prices rapidly climbing back to the $4.00 a gallon level, it is time to once again plead with our representatives in Washington to show the much needed leadership on the issue of energy policy. In the just completed election cycle, there was far too little attention paid to this critical economic and national security issue. As recent events have shown, we have left our economy hostage to the old boom bust cycle of the petroleum markets. At the same time, we have allowed ourselves to become hyper dependent on events in the Middle East and a number of other (usually highly unstable) underdeveloped countries around the world.

The cost and the risks of finding new oil are going up every day. We had a very dramatic display of this last year with the Deepwater Horizon Well in the Gulf of Mexico. That well, which caused at least $20 billion worth if damage, was in waters “only” one mile deep. Other rigs are currently drilling “ultra-deep water” wells that go several miles down. We are clearly having to take bigger and bigger risks to get to additional reserves and those risks will surely come back to haunt us, just as we are seeing today. It seems we have already forgotten the lessons of that terrible experience.

Dr. Brennan Picks His Poison

Mid February 12-year-old Morgan Graveline had the front teeth knocked out of her head during school hours in the school cafeteria. Morgan’s mother Danielle Gauthier told the Union Leader neither medical assistance or the police were called. Gauther went on to tell the UL that no report was ever taken despite numerous calls to Police Headquarters and only after the story received media coverage.

The UL featured a follow-up story on Saturday, February 26 alleging that Morgan Graveline was the aggressor. Hassan Baruki, the father of 14-year-old, “tooth-knocker-outer, Abdi Karim Maalo, asserted his son to be a, “good boy” but added that his friend Ali is a “troublemaker.” Summarily, this becomes a, “She said-He said story. We need be less concerned about who said what to whom. A young girl received a concussion and the teeth knocked right out of her head. For all the preaching, policies and law changes, here is an example where nothing prevented this violence.

The UL’s Ted Seifer also included Danielle Gauthier’s brushes with the law and a bankruptcy filing in this story. What does that have to do with the price of eggs in China? Why? Does this inclusion effectively weight her “credibility?” Does Gauthier’s issues change any of the facts alleged here? In my view, the inclusion was a poor choice and reflected badly on Ted Seifer and the UL. But that is between Ted and his bosses at the UL. Enough said on that.

This will have him back and forth to Washington DC for the purpose of connecting northern New England to Washington DC; a lateral move from his role as congressman when he was trying to sign New Hampshire away to Washington DC.

Washington, DC: INSANITY REIGNS!

Common cause – Granite State Fair Tax Coalition with NEA and SEIU. Birds of a feather?

And when I talk about the Granite State Fair Tax Coalition (not to be confused with the Americans for Fair Taxation, commonly known as The FairTax, a group that wishes to get rid of the Federal income tax and the IRS and substitute a consumption / sales tax with a "prebate" in its stead).  In fact, all protestations aside, the GSFTC does nothing BUT complain that NH’s property taxes are too high and its members / spokespeople are more than happy to give comparisons of NH’s ranking of property tax to other States (where NH ranks as one of the most highest).  They are more than happy to point out that because "the rich" refuse to "buy big" with respect to property, their tribute to the State is less than what they would want from them on combined bended knees.

What they REFUSE to do, however, is to discuss OVERALL taxation rates and NH’s rankings with respect to a citizen’s TOTAL level of taxation – the lack of a sales tax, an income tax, and a whole host of other taxes that other States have – and NH ranks VERY well on the LOW taxation scale. 

GSFTC won’t and can’t – as their secondary position also is clear; it is obvious that they believe that NH State Government is starved for income streams so as to be able to grow government and spend more.  The reliance on property taxes at the local level prevents the State from having more.  To me, that’s a feature and not a bug!

Now, up to now, it has been groups that I could consider to be genuinely concerned about the poor (even though they have tendencies that favor redistribution of other peoples’ money).  However, they have now made common cause with:

  • SEIU (state employee union)
  • The NEA – the Teachers’ Union

Sebelius Admits to Obamacare Double tap

Double TapFans of the movie Zombieland might understand the post title right away.  In the movie the lead protagonist, "Columbus" has a set of rules he always follows which he believes are the only reason he is still alive after the world is turned into Zombieland by a mutant strain of Mad Cow disease that turns almost everyone into crazed, flesh eating zombies.

Rule #1 is cardio.   You need to be able to run away from Zombies.

Rule # 31 is Check the back seat.  Always look to see if there is a Zombie in the back of the car before you drive away in it.

Rule # 3, beware of bathrooms.  Zombies seem to be able to sense when you are at your weakest.

Rule #18 Limber up.  Wouldn’t want to come up lame.

And Rule #2?  Double Tap.  It is not a waste of ammo to put another round into the head of a zombie to make sure they are down for the count.

So who stumbles into my metaphor but Obama Zombie and Health and Inhuman Services Minister Kathleen Sebelius.  Note to the left–no, I am not suggesting we double tap her, I am suggesting she and the democrats of the 111th congress–and all your lying or deluded selves included– have double-tapped the Taxpayers.  Sebelius has just admitted to a congressional committee that a huge chunk of money they claimed was going to offset the costs of Obamacare is the legislative-accounting equivalent of a double tap.

FB Doodlings – Gay marriage

There is a bill in the NH Legislative schedule that would redefine marriage out of the legal realm of the state: HB 569.  Essentially, it would "demote" all marriages from the aspect of "the State"; the title or label of "marriage" would be the sole call of the private sector – in my reading of the bill, I could call my marriage a "marriage", but so could anyone else label their relationship such as well. 

Frankly, I think this is a "run-away" bill;  it removes politicians from the social battle of what constitutes a marriage and what doesn’t – and doesn’t solve the question.  And it does deserve to be answered and settled – thus far, almost all of the decisions to recognize homosexual marriage has come from the Court (the favorite hangout for Liberals trying to change the social fabric of the country, as pretty much with the exception of NH, the general public has always voted it down as a step too far). It is a "punt" – it removes traditional marriage from what should be a pedestal and brings in, a la our government schools, the concept of "the lowest common denominator" to still the waves of political opinion.

So anyways, from FB:

The obvious problem is that many disagree that gay marriage is marriage from the traditional standpoint (and history). I disagree with the notion that by getting the State "out of marriage", it is merely hiding from the issue – it doesn’t solve the problem. In fact, it can make it worse. The idea was that Govt only sanctions civil unions and not marriage still allows the problem to fester in the social arena – anyone can call anything that they want a marriage.

By slinking away, the State also punts on the next issue – why should civil unions only be between two people?

And this bill specifically enumerates only 2. Major logical flaw in the bill is that number, for if one is going to get the State out of marriage, what is that logic surrounding the number two?
