Institutionalizing the End of The Right to Due Process

judge-gavelIf you believe that prohibiting second amendment rights to someone arbitrarily placed on a no-fly list is a sensible step then you’ve been programmed by your government to embrace incremental tyranny. Liberty in exchange for the presumption of security. The sacrifice of (other people’s) Constitutional right to due process and the notion of “innocent until proven guilty” for the perception of whatever greater good the people taking those rights claim will be secured.

And why should you care if the state denies basic liberties to others? We are not talking about taking away your right to due process. This is about other people. Except that it is not.

Cut Taxes – Increase Tax Revenue

taxesDave Solomon at the New Hampshire Union Leader is reporting that New Hampshire state revenues are $100 million over budget for the year. And guess what?

Business taxes account for the largest share of the state’s revenue, and have brought in much more money than budget writers anticipated, …Receipts from business taxes are $74.5 million over plan for the 12 months, or 13.2 percent, accounting for three quarters of the surplus.

That is after Republicans insisted on a cut to business taxes that state Democrats poo-pooed. Democrats State Senator Jeff Woburn, speaking for the collectivist mind of his party, opposed the reductions saying, “we should be building the economy from the bottom up.”

Isn’t that what small business owners do when they hire people?

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch may have well just said “It depends on what your definition of ‘is’ is”

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Friday that she has every intention of accepting an FBI recommendation to indict Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email system while she served as secretary of state, if that’s the recommendation that is presented to her by the FBI.

“I fully expect to accept their recommendations,” she said Friday in a public interview. “I will be accepting their recommendations.”

tipping the scalesWith the rumors that Lynch has been offered the opportunity to stay on as US AG under a Hillary Administration, it think my view is looking more and more correct, as in:

Robert Murray Warned us Last Year About Jobs and Coal

Tom Steyer's dirty coal_handsLast year at the Practical Federalism Forum Murray Energy’s Robert Murray (video below), passionately warned us about a lot of things regarding coal, energy, America, and Obama. And some of these things are upon us.

(CSMonitor.comMurray Energy, the largest privately held coal company in the US, is warning workers of massive layoffs planned for September, caused in part, Murray claims, by Obama’s environmental regulations. As many as 82 percent of workers could lose their jobs at the company that employs people across six states.

Obama said he’d kill coal and he is killing coal, or at least US coal jobs.

Deja Vu: US House Republicans screw over bondholders like Obama did with the auto industry.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Remember how the Republicans howled (and gave more credence to the nascent TEA Party) when the Obama Administration bailed out the auto industry?  That it thumbed its nose at the Rule of Law?  Secured bondholders, by law, had first dibs in any bankruptcy actions – and the Obama Administration cut them off at the knees and emasculated them for 29 cents on the dollar.

Happy Independence Day America… You Blew it

republickeepit

As we celebrate America’s Independence from a tyrannical government back in 1776, House Republicans in the swamp known as D.C. are considering voting on a bill that violates multiple freedoms that were specifically protected in the Bill of Rights by our Founding Fathers.

Mike Rowe – Remembering Independence Day

Mike Rowe: The Way I Heard It – Holiday Edition I wrote this last night around 7pm. I’m posting it this morning around 7am. I point this out because optics seem to matter more than ever in this day and age, and I’d hate to confirm the mistaken belief held by some that I drink … Read more

Robert Reich Warns Us to Avoid “unique and superior ‘Americanism’ ” on July 4th.

I have an “inclusive” message for Robert Reich… (Daily Caller) Former Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration and current University of California Berkeley professor Robert Reich wants Americans to be vigilant this July 4 against “exclusive patriotism” that “asserts a unique and superior ‘Americanism.’” It’s inclusive because it includes you and all the other left-wing, … Read more

Notable Quote – President Calvin Coolidge on Independence Day

My favorite President on Independence Day’s meaning and letting us know how Progressives are not America’s friends or patriots (emphasis mine) given their false suppositions and ideology:

About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.

-President Calvin “Silent Cal” Coolidge

And we fought a War of Independence because of a government that used to do this?

obama constitution is an imperfect documentHey, Kelly Ayotte and Jeanne Shaheen, this is what you want our American Government  (and let’s add Frank Guinta and Annie Kuster to this as well as Speaker Ryan is bringing this to the House after it getting voted down in the Senate) to be like?  Yay, it’s just about Independence Day?

No, no planes back in the 1770s to be kept from boarding but the behavior, so it seems, is still here – the willingness of our Government to declare citizens , in secret and with no due process, guilty of something that the Government won’t say, won’t say who the informant is, won’t allow themselves a defense – just declare them guilty and let them hang in mid-air.  Forever.

Didn’t both the Great Recession and the TEA Party start over this?

Gadsden FlagSome people just don’t learn from history – even if it was just 8 years ago (I guess history doesn’t exist, for Progressives, pre-Obama other than “It’s Bush’s fault!”.  When word came out that the Feds (re: Obama Administration) were thinking about buying mortgages of those who were going into foreclosure, people went nuts.  Why would those that had played with the risk/reward and took out mortgage after mortgage, refinancing over and over and pocketing the cash from house appreciation (and staying mortgaged to the hilt) be bailed out when those that had played by the rules had to fork over the tax monies to make that happen?  WHY should I have to pay for the stupidness and profligateness of others?

So now they want to do it again (emphasis mine, reformatted):

NYC to Buy Unpaid Mortgages to Protect Residents From Foreclosure

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City is taking a novel approach to addressing enduring pockets of the home foreclosure crisis by buying long-unpaid mortgages, with plans to help owners stay in their homes if possible or use the properties as affordable housing if not, officials say.  It’s among the first cities to pursue buying such loans directly from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, officials say. Housing advocates and some lawmakers have pressed HUD to make it easier for cities and nonprofit groups, as opposed to investors, to buy troubled mortgages.

We’ve been through this before with the CRA

Now that the Democrat meme of “Weapons of War” is being exploded, a new one is rising?

Liberal Guide to an AR-15That’s the thing about Progressives / Liberals / Progressives – they burn out phrases about as fast as they can open their mouths.  They burnt out “Progressives”, switched to “Liberals”, and have had to switch back.  I foresee another switch coming up soon on this idea.  Ditto for that politically made up meme of “assault weapons” (the dufuses kept saying assault rifles, too, showing they know diddly squat about what they’re talking about) and started off with “Weapons of War” – and are again getting skewed for the exact same reason (AR-15s are not any of those things). And now we see the Dems, in the form of DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, trying to float another one:

Shot: Concord Fishwrap – Eversource gets approval to sell its power plants

State energy regulators approved the sale of Eversource Energy power plants Friday, including Merrimack Station in Bow.

The nine hydro facilities and three fossil-fuel plants, including coal-fired Merrimack Station, Newington Station and Schiller Station in Portsmouth will be sold at auction overseen by the state Public Utilities Commission. New ownership is expected to save customers money by creating a more competitive market to generate power.

Chaser: UL – Eversource ordered to sell its power plants

The Public Utilities Commission handed down a long-awaited decision Friday on the fate of New Hampshire’s largest utility, ordering Eversource to sell off its power plants in a move that regulators hope will lower electricity prices in the long run by completing the deregulation of the electricity market that began 20 years ago.

Atmospheric Temps Dropping at Record Pace

uah_lt_1979_thru_june_2016_v6-1

2016 could still be one of the warmest years (on average) in the satellite record. It may only tie 1998. We won’t know until the end of the year. But 1997/1998 and 2015/2016 are both El Nino weakening years flipping to La Nina, as we can see in the satellite temperature record above.

It is important to note in this context that the satellite temperature record is less than 40 years old. So when the climate cult and their media echo chambers claim things like hottest month or year “on record,” they are typically referring to one set of readings from a minuscule portion of a historical temperature record many thousands of years old.

Another instance of “You don’t need that”

NH Dems vs Job CreatorsYep, another “tell” to recognized that there be Progressives afoot in the land with one and only one purpose – to find your wallet and return the money in it to its rightful owner – Government. So, along comes Joanna White, Tom Shamberg (looking to go to Concord) and Rep. Eric Schmidt from Grantham (part of a group of residents from the Kearsarge Regional School District looking for a broad based tax to hike one of the country’s lowest tax burdens.  Those evil people that won’t give us more money – “it’s for the children”!!!

Nice of them to decide, a la Bernie and his disdain for 23 types of deodorant in the [evil] free marketplace, that what is “you don’t need that” should be taxed more:

Something has to give. No one wants to take away from the schools. But an ever-increasing property tax is unsustainable. If not another broad-based tax, perhaps a specifically directed tax would work. Rep. Schmidt suggested taxing fizzy drinks, a popular but unnecessary item. (Philadelphia just put a 1½% tax on all sweet drinks). Surely there are others.

A good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a hostage

holstered-gun1I should do this more often as we see a good outcome from what could have been a disaster; from The Blaze (emphasis mine, reformatted):

A robbery suspect armed with a knife entered a Kangaroo gas station in East Ridge, Tennessee, on Thursday with intentions to steal cash and cigarettes — but he didn’t make it out alive. During his escape attempt, police said the suspect took a female clerk hostage.

That’s when a law-abiding gun owner witnessed the robbery in progress and grabbed his firearm from his vehicle and confronted the suspect. The heroic bystander then “fired at least one round, striking him in the body,” East Ridge Police Capt. Tim Mullinax told WDEF-TV. He also revealed that the suspect was still holding the female victim when the gun owner took the risky and accurate shot to the suspect’s chest.

The armed customer will not face any charges. The robbery suspect has not been identified by police because they are still trying to notify his next of kin.

Good for the law abiding citizen for freeing the innocent hostage by ventilating the perp.  Decisions have consequences and if
