In any auction, the winning bidder may pay more for something than it is worth. That is especially the case in this kind of auction — in which government entities compete with one another in offering tax breaks to a rent-seeking corporation (i.e., one looking for public assistance for private gain) that is trying to get as much as it possibly can from government.

The fatal flaw here is the deeply ingrained habit of regional economic development agencies and other government entities of assuming (falsely) that a public investment of X dollars will yield about 2X in indirect benefits — in addition to the job creation and economic growth that come from the investment made by the rent-seeking company.

Seuss-gate, if you’re not aware, involves the snubbing by a School Librarian in the People’s Republic of Cambridge to a gift of books by Melania Trump. Dr. Seuss, you see, is racist propaganda.

“You may not be aware of this,“ she continued, ”but Dr. Seuss is a bit of a cliché, a tired and worn ambassador for children’s literature. As first lady of the United States, you have an incredible platform with world-class resources at your fingertips.”

She goes further. “Another fact that many people are unaware of is that Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes,” she claims.

Earlier this year a group of mayors clung together in the name of the Paris Climate Accord. They insisted, wrongly, that the “treaty” was necessary and they intended to take action locally to support its goals. Some 379 municipal leaders signed on to Climate Mayors.org, which was all most of them ever intended.

As a group, they have done nothing meaningful since.

In a post over at The American Thinker labeled The Free Lunch Slide into Socialism, we see the Great Lie of proto-Socialism once again:

New York City’s Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina recently announced the new “Free School Lunch for All” for the big Apple’s public schools. This means that the entire public-school population, some 1.1 million students, will now be provided with free lunches irrespective of family income. Prior to this, approximately 75 percent of the city’s students were getting free lunches. Under this “Free Lunch for All” program, an additional 200,000 students will now be eligible. This will save the just included families about $300 a year as the cost of a school lunch is $1.75.

To the precious few in New York City who worry about the cost of public education, officials say not to fret. This added expenditure won’t adversely affect the school’s budget. It’s “cost-free” to the city as the tab will be paid out of state and federal funds. That’s me and you.

The NFL’s Kneel-a-palooza is beginning to grate on my nerves. Team owners and players think they are doing something meaningful, but they’ve been shepherded into advocating a false-narrative that feeds the progressive mission to kneecap the culture, and most of them don’t even know it.

Much like the hands-up-don’t-shoot meme, (which was a complete fabrication driven into the collective conscious by a progressive political party and its media homonculi), taking a knee in protest (to what exactly?) is based on exaggerations and misdirection.

For several years, The Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers has been offering workshops on the Right to Know Law, RSA 91-A, its foundation in our State Constitution and how a taxpayer group can use it in uncovering municipal corruption.

Granite Grok filmed one such workshop.

So far, CNHT has had attendees from South Korea, the Philippines, Ukraine, six countries from Africa, Viet Nam and Sri Lanka. Most recently, visitors from Jordan and Iraq came to our office in Concord. Two weeks ago, ten people from Latin America stopped by.

The City of Portsmouth has been ruffling feathers over a proposed property re-valuation.

“I can see it coming,” Whitehouse said Monday. “Come October or the last part of September when they set the tax rate, then I’ll know how bad things will be. I keep cutting and cutting, but I’m all by myself and I’m trying to hang on.”
