With these folks, it comes down to money – if I have to pay money because you do “dangerous” behaviors, I have the right to restrict your freedom of behavior.  I’ve been saying this for years – the more that Government does (because of pickle-pussed Progressives) that costs them money, the more they decide to control your life.  And get mad, REAL mad, if you say “fine, don’t pay for me”.  They can’t seem to understand that they can’t (or should) have it both ways.

In a piece at (where else??) the Concord Monitor titled “If you skip the helmet, give an organ“, one Nick Perencevich makes the claim that because NH doesn’t force adults to use a motorcycle helmet or buckle their seatbelts, they should become organ donors and if not willingly, the State should just force it.

Being a big girl, almost all grown up, she went and filled out all the confusing paperwork to register to vote legally. NH citizens of the jury should be proud of Lily.

The Family Medical Leave Insurance bill (HB628) making it’s way through the New Hampshire House has a great many things wrong with it, not the least of which is that it not only taxes individual income, a division of state government we’ll never be able to opt out of has to be created to collect the tax and administer the program.

It’s an income tax.

Governor Sununu signed CNHT’s No Tax Pledge when he ran for the office he now holds along with many other Republicans, but the inside scoop is that leadership, including the Governor, secretly support the bill and are prepared to make this law.

Anti-car-ness is a constant theme over at Treehugger – rack’em and stack’em in a walkable city environment is their Utopia.  Need to move around? Walk, ride a bike, or public transportation – those are their only options for you.  I will also tell you that dissenting from that line will bring a host of comments to any that you leave – like many college campuses, there is an overriding sense of “YOU don’t need that!” lack of Freedom.

The big three car manufacturer said it will invest another $25 million in factory improvements to facilitate a 25 percent increase in production of the SUV models, according to the Detroit Free Press. Ford reports that car dealers across the country have been having trouble keeping the SUVs in stock as they roll off lots within days after being delivered. The carmaker remarked that customers are intensely interested in high-end SUVs in this, the era of Trump.

Yet, the Treehuggers are all agog over how the sales of electric cars are doing – you know, a miniscule number.  It’s like fusion power to them – the breakthrough has been in the process of decades and it HAS to be just around the corner, right? Wait, it gets worse – not only BIGGER but customers are choosing the really expensive ones!

I always try to remind myself to post the story of the Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving – made possible from the radical shift from Socialism (which is how the Colony started as an economic system) to Capitalism.  Seems like Capitalism, regardless of what the Chinese Communist Party may wish to have admitted, just always beats Socialism when it comes to actual results (emphasis mine):

The first recorded incidence of private farming in post-Mao China occurred in Pengxi county of Sichuan province, in a village called “Nine Dragon Hill.” This village was one of the poorest in Qunli Commune, widely known in the region as a “village of beggars.” One evening in September 1976, Deng Tianyuan, the Party secretary of the commune, summoned a small group of cadres to discuss the problem of agricultural production. Principles mean more than a political majority

The NH GOP membership is constantly reminded that the primary focus of the party is to elect someone who identifies as a Republican.  We are assured that anyone who is 80% Republican is better than the Democrat. But it is evident through the actions of the top leadership of the Republican Party (with the exception of the current Chairman), that 80% often does not represent or foster the social fiber of the party identified in the party platform where it is most needed.

While Wall Street decided to throw itself into the gutter, Main Street is doing very well, thank you very much, and is very much looking forward to good time thanks to Trump’s changing Government’s view of capitalism and making it easier to do business by getting Government out of the way and letting people keep more of their own money.  Results are starting to show up (reformatted, abstracted, emphasis mine):

Main Street continues to flourish under the Trump administration. The National Federation of Independent Business reports that optimism is at a 45-year high among America’s small businesses. The “Small Business Optimism Index” — a monthly gauge of sentiment among the owners — has broken the record for the measurement, established 45 years ago.

• 41 percent of the members reported they expect the economy to improve
• 33% say it’s an ideal time to expand
• another 33% report an increase in job openings
• 31 percent reported “higher worker compensation” for their employees.

This is interesting, and not just because the ruling came out of a court in California. The state charged a baker with breaking the law because they refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple. The court has denied the State’s motion for preliminary injunction in favor of the baker, Cathy Miller.

There’s a good deal of detail to consume, and while most court rulings are a challenge, this one is actually compelling.
