I really liked Michael Graham’s piece that says America can’t fix anything lately – and Kurt Schlichter’s (Notable Quote) amplifies it. As always, I’m scanning the comments to both see what the temperature of our readers is while looking for thoughtful remarks that make good points. Agent Liberty left such a comment here on Graham’s piece.
I’ve lightly edited it:
I see the problem as both sides approach an issue from vastly different philosophical assumptions. Conservative groups generally want to solve the problem of these school massacres using the rational, appropriate measures of hardening the building’s security, having several armed school personnel present at the school, and locking up the patently insane youth that has made threats to themselves and others so that they can receive some care and keep them away from law-abiding society.
Progressives, on the other hand, do not care one bit about the safety of students in their schools or people within their communities. They only see these massacres (that are almost always committed by radical leftists who are often insane for reasons of sexual deviancy, are psychopathic or sociopathic individuals, aka Democrats, progressives, liberals, Marxists, fascists, etc.) as a means of achieving further control over society, furthering the influence of their favored tribal groups and destroying any potential opposition to their fevered schemes by those they consider “Enemies of the People”. Namely you Mr. & Ms. Normal America.
Progressives don’t want to take steps to mitigate and reduce the impact of future events. They naturally will oppose any effective action to arm school personnel, fortify school buildings or even require the damn locks to be locked and only have one entrance/exit that is “airlocked”. They call those who argue for these things “racist” or “bigoted” or especially directed against the Left’s beloved minority groups which are over-represented in criminals in society.
Nor will they listen to the argument regarding the numbers of weapons; the very impossibility of eliminating even a fraction of them without plunging the nation into a civil war and bloodshed not seen since their Democratic ancestors tried to keep their slaves in 1860 evades them. I believe that their reading of their sorcerer’s apprentice philosophers (Marx, Alinsky, Gramsci, Mao, et. al.) leads them to want violence and insurrection resulting from forcing gun confiscation. Thus, there is no inclination for the Left to compromise to reduce tensions only to act to exacerbate and inflame them.
Conservatives need to understand that their opposition is not seeking compromise, but conquest.
