There are a ton of liberal, Progressive, Secularists out there that just HATE the idea of being wished a “Merry Christmas.” Certainly, one of them is being reminded that there are also a ton of Christians out there that truly celebrate the season for more than the whole consumer-based Santa Claus, presents, lights part.
It’s about “religion in the Public Square”, it’s about the carols and hymns, the solemnness of it all, the prayers, and adoration of a baby who is the Messiah that was born to save us all from our sins.
They are all in on Marx’s statement of “religion is the opium of the people” (or “masses”). THEY are their own gods – and want the rest of us to know it. But even as they try to use “Happy Holidays”, they’re still trapped:
Merry Christmas Day = Merry Christmas = Merry Holidays = Holy Day
