Breaking News – Governor Chris Sununu is Not running for the US Senate

UPDATE: Kelly Ayotte decided she liked her seats on corporate Boards and isn’t running for anything. Now, it is randomized chaos on the Republican side now.  Interesting times ahead!

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu says he is not going to look to follow former US Senator John E. Sununu to The Swamp. Instead, he’s going to stay here in Concord. Or, at least, that’s his plan.

Many foreheads are being rubbed in earnest, or in confusion, or dismay.

He’s just not all that into DC right now (even as WMUR is reporting a possible Prez run in some distant future or being subordinate as someone else’s Cabinet Secretary).

I’ll be honest, I didn’t bother to watch it live. I’ve got too much on my plate right now and I really don’t care much, truth be told.  I don’t think it’s much of a surprise to loyal readers but was kinda hoping he’d head North to his ski resort.

So, what is the political shuffleboard going to look like tomorrow?

Many of us in the Freedom and Liberty wing are hoping that Frank Edelblut would vie for the corner office in the Republican primary (there WILL be one, I believe).

Kelly Ayotte was rumored to be in the mix as well but with this announcement, I’m betting Papa Smurf is telling her to go back to her multiple corporate Board rooms instead of mounting a challenge against Baby Huey.

But other than these, who else has the best name recognition and $$$ (either self-funding or by attraction) to pull off an upset?

After all, the GOPe is going to back him (although I’m betting that Chuck Morse has Nose-bent-out-of-shape Syndrome since some rumors had him eyeing a jump from the NH Senate. Does Bradley have any designs at all on the job?

Who knows (or, who cares)?

There will be a number of folks on the Middle and Right side throwing the bones, looking at the smoke from their campfires, or shuffling their Tarot cards muttering “could it be me?

Maybe?

Do I have the stones to go up against the Five Families,” after pouring over the chronological polls and seeing steep they’ve been falling for Sununu.

But what will this do on the Democrat side? I’m not all that plugged in.

NH State Senator Cindi Warmington and former NH State Senator Jon “Goober for Gubnor” Morgan are rumored to be looking in the mirror to say “I could do that, couldn’t I?”

Time will tell and as always, politics will be a full-contact sport here in NH.
