Ilhan Omar is a loud-mouthed advocate for defunding the police. In her own backyard. And they did. Minneapolis turned its back on cops and successfully replaced policing with high crime, especially violent crime. Omar has decided to blame the police.
“What we must also recognize is that the reduction in policing currently in our city and the lawlessness that is happening is due to two things,” Omar said during a town hall event Saturday in Minneapolis.
One of them, she said, is that “the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve.”
The Defund poster child’s chickens have come home to roost, and she says these aren’t her chickens. But this can’t be the first she’s heard of it.

Crime spiked immediately after George Floyd overdosed on Fentanyl. Prog city councils across the urban landscape were clamoring to yank funds from police budgets. Cops in all these cities were on notice. We do not have your back. You screw up, and you’ll get terminated, potentially charged, and maybe even go to jail.
If someone said the same thing about members of congress with sketchy campaign spending records or who could be connected to vote fraud schemes, they might think twice about the occupation.
As it turns out, Democrats like Omar fear nothing because congress doesn’t punish members of the club unless there’s no other choice. A state of affairs that anti-policing advocates like Omar have probably linked to racist cops or a corrupt system that’s out of control.
Congress certainly is, so I expect that would be true in a city like Minneapolis, whose cops have been under Democrat civilian rule for decades.
Dems who defunded and undercut the cops until there were too few cops and a lot more crime. And no Omar is here to tell us the cops are to blame.
No, she’s not. She’s setting the stage. She wanted the cops replaced, and now I expect she’ll be telling her friends in DC who are already way ahead of her that the answer is to replace or supplement the city cops with federally accountable “officers.”
Ending local policing the Feds can’t control has long been the goal of the left. Every time they bring it up, you should be listening for clues as to how they think they can accomplish it. Because, if they do, the one-party state will have its jackboot army, and that’s the real beginning of the end of America.
