Data Point – Isn’t Great to See What Federal Spending Has Accomplished in Education?

The only people who have benefited from this rise in education spending have been the adults. The teacher’s unions, administrative bloat, and suppliers to the Educational-Industrial Complex.

The chart below mirrors what the Cato Institute discovered a while ago – it’s not the spending that matters.

Grokster Ian has oft posited that concentrating on money has been a very bad proposition for education.  We’ve forgotten about what money SHOULD be doing which is heightening student achievement.

So, for all the taxes collected and money spent, what have we gotten for our money?

Federal Spending per Student vs student achievement

So let me ask again, at a time that Parents, more and more, are becoming outraged that schools are teaching fads and getting turned around about social issues while the kids can hardly read or write or “critically think.”

Is this yet another example, like HeadStart, where the Progressive’s “good intentions” went off the rails, FAST?  And once started, all we hear is “mo’money, mo’money, MORE MONEY!” and “YOUR SELFISH IF YOU DON’T GIVE US MORE”.

Actual results don’t matter. And certainly, if you take an objective look at the above, it doesn’t matter. Student achievement, the actual reason for this spending, hasn’t changed at all.

I hate the word “reimagined” as it is thrown around lately – it only translates to More Money and Bigger Government. For once, however, can we “imagine” going back to the 50s and early 60s model where local people spent local money on local education – and teachers kept to just academic standards?
