Put this in the “Where will the NH House now gather” folder.
Just perusing the papers and a snippet in the U(nonservative)L’s State House Dome piece had this in a longer snippet about selecting NH House Chairs and Committee assignments (emphasis mine, reformatted):
The plan is to tentatively publish those assignments and seating in the calendar for this Wednesday, Packard wrote. Packard said plans were coming together for a “drive-in”-type session for the House’s next scheduled meeting, Jan. 6 at the University of New Hampshire.
“While this is one avenue we are looking at, I want to assure you that the health and safety of legislators and staff are our priority, no matter where we meet…It is my opinion, in talking with our staff, that we are not prepared to run an election for speaker or conduct our business for adopting rules in a remote meeting or hybrid situation, nor do our rules allow for it. A drive-in type of event will satisfy our need to meet in-person for the purpose of balloting and voting. It will dramatically reduce or even eliminate the need to interact with each other. We will be protected from unnecessary risk and from the elements by our vehicles, and we will meet or exceed every CDC and Public Health recommendation.”
THIS ought to be amusing – when’s the last time you saw a car show outside in January? Bonus points: BLIZZARD!
Again. Old fogeys (yeah, I guess I’m part of that club now) – there’s a reason why the phrase “snowbirds” exists and it has nothing to do with birds cavorting with snowflakes (well, given that it’s 2020…).
So, the Democrats keep yammering that Republicans hate the environment and that they are ALL about keeping NH “pristine,” I wonder how many of them will:
- carpool to work (the house meeting – even at the $100/year, they’re getting paid so it IS work, right?
- get out of their cars, walk over to their House-mates” and force them to roll down their windows and maintain “social distancing” (whereby my rules for social distancing require Socialists to be 1/2 a planet away from me – I keep getting funny looks when I tell them that).
- how many will refuse to idle their car engines to keep their butts (and other extremities) warm? How much CO2 will they be willing to create for such a “noble cause” (See Dr. Birx)? How many gallons of gas are they willing to waste in doing so (especially those that are members of the Sierra Club and believe in any of their gazillion projects to “keep it in the ground”?
Naw, they won’t do the mea culpa dance – they’ll just blame it all on the Republicans. Remember, I said it here first. As always, being a Progressive means never having to say a meaningful “I’m sorry that I have sinned against you”. After all, sinning requires a belief in someone greater than yourself and NO Progressive is willing to admit to that. Certainly not Dementia Joe, the titular head of their Progressive Pack now.
Neither will they recognize that some of their ideology specifically calls for others to use less energy – will ANY of them recognize that they are now suffering from the effects of their “good intentions” and learn their lesson from sitting in a cold car for up to 12 hours? Most are old enough to remember the Blizzard of 1978 – and all those cars stuck on the highways in MA – ring a bell?
Er, what’s the over/under on “Not a freaking chance” ?
Quicker Thought – just leave them all out on the UNH football field. Think of them as “additional obstacles to avoid” for team practicing for their spring season…
