That’s a presumptuous headline, you say. I agree. We’ve got a video out of Georgia showing massive election fraud, the White House and the CIA are at war with each other (and everything else), how could this be the most important thing I’ll read today? Any day? Every Day? Because it is.

First, thanks to Andrew Manuse from ReopenNH/RebuildNH for sharing what I’m claiming is so damn important. And it’s not important because I’m saying it is important or because commenter Maecy Charette (who said it first) said i.e., but because she’s right: we all need to be saying this.

That’s the fatality rate for COVID. Regardless of how many become infected with COVID, 99.98% of them will recover. That .02% number — 537 COVID deaths in NH divided by the 22,322 cases reported by WMUR — is consistent in our experience in NH and across the nation. It falls far below the fatality rate for the seasonal flu (.1%), Hepatitis A (.1-.3%), malaria (.3%), anthrax, whooping cough and smallpox (all 1% each), cholera (2-3%) and the 1918 Spanish flu (2.5%). There’s a greater chance of dying of cancer (.14%) than there is of dying of COVID.
To be honest, the 537 COVID death statistic is likely inflated and, per the CDC, should probably be 6% of that number. But we play a convoluted game when we try to argue numbers with tyrants. We’ll get buried in statistics, with red herrings like hospital utilization tossed in for good measure. The key number to hammer home is .02%.
A fatality rate of .02% in ANY disease does not constitute a State of Emergency. It didn’t with any of the diseases listed above. And it shouldn’t now.
We have been massively lied to about COVID. It isn’t the kiss of death people fear. Masks don’t prevent its spread. Killing every social function that made life worth living hasn’t stopped it. Experts even suggest that COVID tests themselves are false-positives 20% of the time. We could argue against each of these lies endlessly and spin our wheels doing so. The central point is that a disease from which 99.98% of people recover is not an emergency. People in NH and across the country are hungry for the truth. We need to give it to them.

Now go out and share this, and say it. Masks don’t stop it, Distancing doesn’t stop it. Lockdowns and quarantines don’t stop it. “Killing every social function that made life worth living hasn’t stopped it.” And 99.98% of us will survive it.
