Going Maskless is a Political Cult – As If Mandating Them Isn’t?

Big Brother 1984 Mask Coronavirus

We call them maskholes for forcing us to wear them, and they call us lots of things. Bigots, racists, white supremacists, and now well, going maskless is a political cult. If it’s in the same way property rights, free speech, self-defense, and individual liberty is, I agree.

I embrace the cult of liberty: natural rights, freedom from oppressive governments, all of that.

Yvonne Abraham, writing in the Boston Globe, is part of a different cult, and shows it when she argues that “He was not just opting not to wear a mask himself, but proselytizing against it, parroting the idiotic anti-science rhetoric of the president and his cult.”

You’d think he led a mob-riot that burned down minority businesses, jeesh!

She’s referring to an older gentleman who, upon passing her on a hiking trail (without a mask), suggested she take hers off.

“You should take off those masks,” he said. “You need the oxygen.”

For the record, all the mask mandates I’ve seen include exceptions for physical exertion (at health clubs, outdoor exercise, etc.) because (and this is science, Yvonne) it’s less dangerous. But Yvonne is bothered becasue the old man, and his cult are “mocking science and good sense as signs of weakness.

I’m mocking the one-sided science that deliberately censors other scientists and medical professionals who disagree with you. Who, “opt” for another opinion.

Facebook and Twitter actively mute, shadowban, or censor anything outside the ‘Left’s approved narrative, and those who persist risk being de-platformed. Yvonne’s opinion presents no such threat.

And there is a lot of science out there that says the political response is dangerous and that the virus is not as lethal as your side insists. Team Yvonne is actively silencing these messages and supplanting them with their own.

I bet Yvonne’s information diet is top-heavy with approved messaging, but even the CDC is okay with going maskless during activities that increase breathing or cause you to sweat. Sweaty masks are a no-no.

And while a hike will affect different individuals differently, each should be permitted to make a judgment on their own needs with the CDC’s blessing. But that’s not the problem.

Yvonne felt offended (enough to label anti maskers an idiotic anti-science cult) that the old guy would suggest a choice she did not make.

But (again) there’s tons of science and actual proof that mask mandates can’t stop the spread of a virus and tens of thousands of medical and science professionals who have spoken out against many of the political acts taken that are potentially much more dangerous (especially to young people) than this Coronavirus.

And we can get into a war about whose experts are right about what, but that’s not even the point, in my mind. Yvonne wants to be free to choose to wear a mask based on the information she consumes. I’m all for that.

She also wants to share her views in the interest of educating others on what she hears, and I’m all for that.

Guess what; the old guy wanted the same thing. And while we may each find the other’s opinions or scientists as ignorant or dangerous (or political tools of some agenda), everyone is entitled to their opinion. Being annoyed about that is also a right, as is writing about it.

The problem starts when the government uses force to deny someone that right.

Quarantining the healthy is fascistic, as is shutting down private businesses or fining them for failing to enforce your mask mandates.

Yvonne is clearly in camp lockdown. Good for her. If she wants to mask up, and lock herself up, then go for it. Order meals online. Distance away, and look, she can still collect a paycheck from home and do her job. No bailouts are required (even though her industry has been pining for them for over a decade).

But her team wants to force everyone else on board even if it costs them their paycheck, marriage, family, job, mental health, or their life and not from covid19.

If we disagree with her team, we get silenced, fined, lose licenses to operate our businesses, be prevented from providing people with a living, and even be taken away in handcuffs.

And whatever happened to our bodies, our choices? These uptight busybodies can’t even leave the anti-science bigots alone to commit suicide by coronavirus.

Is it because so far, this is a virus that over 99% of people will survive?

Even if your science could disagree (and it can’t), shouldn’t we be free to take the risk?

No, and that’s the real problem.
