The Democrat party has left Bernie Sanders. Michigan, Bernie’s hope for a big win in a big state went Biden 53% to 36%. The rest of yesterday didn’t go well, either.
Former vice president Joe Biden scored at least four more primary victories Tuesday, including handily defeating Bernie Sanders in Michigan in a severe blow to the Vermont senator’s campaign that underscored how drastically the Democratic presidential contest has shifted in less than two weeks.
Seizing firm control of the race, Biden began turning toward the general election by reaching out to Sanders’ voters in his victory speech in an attempt to unify Democrats.
Yes, the man who can barely tell his wife and sister apart, who swore at an autoworker, and endorsed President Trump (that’s just since last weekend) is the guy behind whom Democrats are placing their trust. He’s the guy they think can beat Trump.
Bernie has not given up. The Delegate count is 823 to 663. Biden also, presumably, has another hundred-sixty plus from drop-outs who have endorsed him. That puts him close, but Sanders is still clinging to hope.
I’ve had unusually good luck this primary season. I picked Biden out of the pack last year. And after suggesting the impeachment Ukraine crisis may have killed his candidacy, he emerged as the leader. I think he’ll stay there. Even if they have to prop him up and have staffers move his arms and legs.
What he really needs is for someone else to do the talking but I’m sure the party has someone picked out for the job if he wins.
