Honest Elections and the Prevention of Voter Fraud

One of the greatest guardians of the rule of law these days is the Washington, D.C. based Judicial Watch non-profit organization.  See  www.JudicialWatch.org

It has recently released an advocacy piece on what it considers to be 9 critical challenges to honest elections in 2020 and beyond, accompanied by an analysis of the activities to undermine our traditional American values and the rule of law in America by billionaire George Soros and his various and sundry affiliated and supported groups.

The following is a summary of their take on the 9 most critical challenges to honest elections in 2020 and beyond:

1. Same-Day Voter Registration…sounds at first like maybe a good idea, but in fact is another invitation to voter fraud, including allowing ineligible individuals to vote by overloading election clerks and volunteers on Election Day. As presently in force in New Hampshire, it is an invitation to voter fraud, and the major arguments in favor of retaining this ridiculous process, advocated by the longtime Democrat Secretary of State, as well as the various town clerks and moderators and the DMV who do not want to take on “extra” work, is that if this is eliminated in NH, we must comply with the federal “Motor Voter” law, with which nearly all other states comply without much difficulty and that might assure better integrity in our elections.

2. Lax Enforcement of the National Voter Registration Act… requires that election officials take reasonable steps to keep their voter rolls accurate-lax enforcement leaves the door open to voter fraud and can result in dishonest elections.

3. “Ballot Harvesting”…permits individuals to “collect” ballots and in theory turn them into a sanctioned voting office. This practice is clearly open to voter fraud and intimidation and is of great concern in California where liberals recently pushed through an “anything goes” ballot harvesting law.  Ballot harvesting works really well with residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

4. “Opt-Out” Automatic Voting Registration…is a system that automatically enrolls individuals as voters, usually as part of obtaining or renewing a driver’s license. It is shot through with opportunities for voter fraud since many states issue driver’s licenses with minimal or no validation of citizenship.  Similarly, in the 2017-18 biennium, one NH Rep on the Election Law Committee attempted to have the House pass a bill that would implement online voter registration in the face of an ITL recommendation by the full committee- it was finally killed in the House when its members were reminded of the well-publicized and numerous instances of hacking of personal information on government and business sites maintained by organizations will vastly superior financial resources to try to assure safe storage of such data (which they were obviously unable to accomplish).

5. Abolition of Voter ID Requirements– this has been a goal of left-wing litigation for years, because Voter ID requirements, along with clean voter rolls, is the best way to keep ineligible voters, including non-citizens, out of the voting booth.

6. Abolition of Voter Residency Requirements– this is just coming on to the radar screen as left-wing groups are now challenging a North Dakota election law that requires voters to produce an ID that includes a residential address. Removing this requirement will make it easier for unscrupulous individuals to vote multiple times.

7. Abolition of the Electoral College…has long been a goal for many liberals, but it is now gaining traction through a Leftist scheme called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which calls on states to follow the national popular vote results when casting their Electoral College ballots. The objective is the same…to abolish the Electoral College and go to direct popular voting for president and vice president. Direct popular voting would encourage vote fraud on such a massive scale that it could decide the outcome of a presidential election.

8. Out-of-Precinct Voting…is a derivation of Same-Day Voter Registration and is ripe with the same dangers for potential voter fraud.

9. “All Mail-In Ballots” Voting…this system would put the U.S. Postal Service in the position of conducting our elections (a sobering thought) and enhances the chances of voter fraud.
