Six Saudi nationals have been arrested after an Air Force trainee – also from Saudi Arabia – opened fire at a naval base in Florida, killing three people and injuring eight. The men were detained near the scene of the shooting, which took place at Naval Air Station in Pensacola early Friday morning. It is currently unclear why they have been taken into custody.
Three of the six Saudis were seen filming the entire incident as it unfolded, a source told The New York Times on Friday evening.
The shooter was a vetted member of the Saudi Arabian military receiving flight training in the United States.
President Donald Trump this afternoon tweeted that he spoke on the phone with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, who he said expressed ‘sincere condolences’ to those impacted by the shooting.
Trump added that King Salman informed him the Saudi people love Americans and ‘are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter…’
Yes, the Saudis love America. They love funding mosques and madrassas and suspicious pro-Islam groups with sketchy ties to militant activists. They love fracking so much they work diligently on propaganda campaigns in support of Democrat efforts to end it. Oh, and they love giving money to Hillary Clinton, but I repeat myself.
The Enemy of my Enemy…
I get that we probably need the Saudis as geopolitical allies to address the more significant regional threat presented by Iran and its terror proxies. But we don’t need to cuddle up to them for energy anymore. Thanks to fracking, we have secured our immediate energy future barring any interruption (by Democrats) that will continue for decades if not a century or more. So, if Iran were no longer an issue, we’d be better off ending aid and distancing ourselves from them.
I think Mr. Trump would agree, but I don’t see any of that happening anytime soon. As for the six other Saudi’s arrested, no one yet knows why or what the connection, if any, might be to this attack. What they filmed if anything. Or what that means, except that in at least one case, the shooter, vetting either didn’t work or this is about something else and the person most able to tell us that is dead.
