Never Trumper’s have their 2020 champion. Bill Weld officially threw other people’s money into a fiery pit. Sorry, what I meant was a hat in the “ring” for the 2020 GOP nomination. A fiery ring.
Weld is nominally a Republican in a one-party state like Massachusetts. Maybe in New York. But nowhere else.
NHGOP Chair Steve Stepanek said it about as well as anyone could.
“The Republican Party is a big tent, but someone who endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 as the Libertarian Party’s Vice-Presidential nominee really needs to think about how welcome he is in the Republican Party.”
It’s that Bill Weld. The former Massachusetts governor who has gone further left since his time running the Bay State.
“I really think if we have six more years of the same stuff we’ve had out of the White House the last two years that would be a political tragedy, and I would fear for the Republic,” he said.
“I would be ashamed of myself if I didn’t raise my hand and run,”
Snowball’s Chance in Hell
I’m not sure whose money he is wasting, but they’d get more value using it as stuffing for a Trump effigy.
Trump enjoys a 90% percent approval rating among Republicans today. And in the “willing to listen to even the biggest dumbass RINO Republican to roll into town” state of New Hampshire, the only poll we have to date shows Trump crushing Weld 82 percent to 18 percent.
That’s the 18% pining for dumbass Democrat registered as a Republican John Kasich.
If Kasich gets the itch, Weld should tour early primary states looking for a vacation home because he’s not going to get enough support to be invited to the Party Convention. Actually, he may not anyway.
But as Skip noted here, if he’s willing to sit down with us, we’ll interview him.
