Shutdown Is Game On as Trump Rejects Funding Bill Over Border Security Concerns

The morning news was replete with tales of a government shutdown averted. The Senate approved a short-term solution to keep some of the government open until February 8th. And no border wall funding. Sighs of relief from some, outrage from others. All spoken too soon. President Trump won’t sign it. He wants action on securing the border now.

“The president informed us he will not sign the bill that came from the Senate last evening because of his legitimate concerns for border security,” Ryan told reporters after meeting with Trump at the White House. “So what we’re going to do is go back to the House and work with our members.”

A significant majority of Americans agree with Mr. Trump. It’s a key issue responsible for his election. They want a more secure border. President Trump is playing the odds that this will work in his favor.

Either that or Ann Coulter got to him.
