Sheikh Abdul Latif Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh said Wednesday that Muslims who use Twitter or other social media have “lost this world and his afterlife,” as quoted byBBC News.
Lost in the next world…they’re going to hell.
But I bet…and I’m just guessing here..that if it is OK to lie, cheat, steal, kill, or do anything in violation of the Koran or Shari’a in the name of cleansing the universal ummah of it’s corruption, that it would be OK for Muslims to use twitter–as long as no one in the Saudi royal family or those responsible for their control of the Kingdom, is on the list of those to be cleansed?
To that end…
“The Kingdom is particularly concerned with how Twitter has been used to keep people informed of human rights activists who have been tried for the crime of free speech,” writes Jonathan Turley, professor of law at The George Washington University Law School. “Leaders on the web have been detained while others have been charged with apostasy and other crimes for statements made on these sites.”
So they’re not going to hell exactly, but they might go to bed one night only to wake up in a dark, windowless, cell missing their tongue or a few digits on both hands? (Can’t tweet without fingers.)
Maybe the Kingdom should contact the Cincinnati office of the IRS for help with suppressing Free speech. It’s legal here and that didn’t stop them from suppressing it in the US, though I don’t see then clipping digits or sweeping folks up in the dark of night just yet.
