Alexander Fraser Tytler, Lord Woodhouselee in the 1700’s on discussing democracy opined,
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.”
It seems there is multiple threads of truth and realism when this notion is plied against our current state of the Union. We have elected a President who incessantly complains about the spending of George W. Bush while spending the nation trillions into debt with breakneck speed.
The political class, Republicans and Democrats alike, have corrupted the spirit and meaning of the printed and spoken word. “Cuts” refers to throttling back the levels of spending. Indeed we as a nation will continue to spend more money, but less than is asked for…that is not a cut. When asked, the average American will tell you that a cut is defined as cutting back of spending…meaning at current levels we spend less.
Yet here we are. We now have the so-called, “Sequestration.” A proposal put forth by the Obama Administration, (yet they claim the Republicans did). And now that it is here, it is used a tool to demagogue Republicans by the Democrats. The establishment Republicans are corrupt…Democrats even more corrupt. The net product will be a European-like social state. The Democrats will have created it and the Republicans will have helped.
Remember the cry, when you hear that demagoguery after some liberal sacred cow does not get all of its nickles it feels entitled to….THE SEQUESTRIANS ARE COMING! THE SEQUESTRIANS ARE COMING! Just picture that figurative rider clad donkey, skipping and bucking along, the liberal rider belting out his or her favorite demagoguery. Indeed, the “Sequestrians” are coming. Perhaps the sequester should have included cuts in the hay and water fed to asses.
