Ask Carol Shea-Porter, well–ask any New Hampshire Democrat actually, about warrant-less wire taps. Remember those? The Democrats got all wound up about them under a previous president, but lets be honest; it was not because they really gave a damn about your rights or your privacy.
They got wound up because they viewed it as a political opportunity. They felt that they could win votes and seats (and political power) by bashing George Bush and Republicans on that particular issue if they talked about it enough.
What’s that? You don’t believe me when I tell you Democrats didn’t really care? You don’t think it was just about politics and power? Well why haven’t we heard a word out of them about this issue since Obama came to office?
Or didn’t you know? According to the ACLU…more people were subjected to pen register and trap and trace surveillance in the past two years than in the entire previous decade.
Still can’t hear the Democrats outrage about the Government violating your rights?
“The number of ‘authorizations’ the Justice Department received to use these devices on individuals’ email and network data increased 361% between 2009 and 2011,” the ACLU said.
It should be noted that all of this is perpetrated by the Dept. of Justice without obtaining traditional warrants.
The ACLU reports that the Dept. of Justice used “pen register” and “trap and trace” techniques 23,535 times in 2009 and 37,616 times in 2011. And the Obama DOJ was not at all interested in giving the ACLU any of the documents proving it. And all right under Carol Shea-Porters nose, below which we would find her silent yet stern little mouth, not yammering at all about your rights under a Democrat President, even during her own time in congress.
Someone should perhaps ask the former (an hopefully to remain former) congresswoman what changed in 2009?
Why was is such a big issue under George Bush but a 361% increase under Obama wasn’t even worth a mention?
