Incoming and developing: the Moultonboro Library trustees decide they can’t stand the heat – but are throwing out the kitchen instead of themselves? From Moultonboro Speaks:
Moultonboro Public Library Trustees to continue ban on political campaigning in library.
At today’s Moultonboro Library Board of Trustees meeting, and without a vote or any discussion among the elected Board members, the Chair of the Moultonboro Public Library Board of Trustees, Phyllis Prouty, read a prepared statement and declared that no political campaigning will be allowed in the Moultonboro Public Library. She added that all Library policies will be reviewed in September. When asked if Republican Kevin Smith who is running for the Republican nomination for NH Governor will be permitted to speak to the Lakes Region Tea Party at the library, she responded that ” they will have to find another location”.
I have asked the tipster to research a couple of items for me – like WHY the Trustees have decided to take this action? Is there a political or ideological reason for the shutdown? Or are they deciding that they wish NO controversy attaching itself to a, well, taxpayer funded building? Has the LRTP been contentious users of the facility? Have they damaged the property? The post states “but participation was severely limited by the Chair” – Hmmm, limiting Free Speech in a public building?
But the best part is the realization of the best way that citizens can fight back: The Library may be an independent entity from the Town, but it is still subject to the Right to Know law.
We’ll follow this story.
