Dick Dale turned 74 on Wednesday! Widely known as, The King of the Surf Guitar, Dick Dale made popular, the use of reverb and custom-made Fender amplifiers and was the first to use the 100-watt guitar amplifier.

I had the unique opportunity to meet Dick in Thousand Oaks California when I was just eleven years old, sparking in me a passion to learn how to play guitar and my continuing love of the surf genre.  In my teen years, while playing Dick Dale riffs on my Les Paul knock-off, I would sometimes accidentally jostle my amp… the steely dripping sound of the reverb springs always sparked my fond childhood memories of the 40 minutes I got to spend with Dick Dale and a couple of his Deltones. Happy Birthday, Dick!
