League Of Conservation Hodes-sters

LCV rolls out the fake grass matThe LCV (League Of Conservation Voters) has an entity registered with the New Hampshire Secretary of State (here) called the LCV political engagement fund, whose stated purpose is "providing grants to other non-candidate New Hampshire Political committees."

Normally we would assume this is to funnel special interest donor money into the state to hide targeted issue or candidate advocacy because that’s what all the other democrat fronts are for and Buckly loves to juggle the money back and forth through them so it’s almost impossible to figure out how the system has been gamed.  But this is a bit more straight forward.

And after someone sent me this ad on Craig’s List,(after the jump) it seemed very much like that could be exactly the purpose.

Canvassers

All eyes are on New Hampshire. Don’t miss your chance to make a difference in this exciting election! New Hampshire has one of the hottest Senate races in the country, and Paul Hodes is a true environmental champion who will make a real difference in Washington on global warming, renewable energy, and conservation values.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is seeking contract Canvassers for its independent campaign in New Hampshire to help elect Paul Hodes to the U.S. Senate. LCV is running a multi-layered, grassroots outreach campaign in the Manchester area, with the main focus being a targeted door-to-door canvass.

Canvassers go house-to-house according to an assigned list of targeted voters and engage the voters they encounter in a conversation about the candidates and issues. In addition to canvassing duties, canvassers may spend a portion of their day preparing canvass maps and materials, performing data entry, and assisting with volunteer recruitment when necessary.

Canvassers are the on-the-ground key to the success of a grassroots campaign. Responsibilities include:

Go house-to-house according to an assigned list of targeted voters to distribute campaign literature.

Ideal applicants are hard-working team players interested in environmental advocacy and/or political activism. Applicants should possess the ability to work alone, are personable and dependable, and have excellent communication skills.

Independent contract work will continue through November 2. Pay is $50 per shift. Shifts are approximately 3-8pm Sunday through Thursday with daytime weekend shifts available.

This is a temporary contract position based in the Manchester area. To apply, send an email to NHContracts@lcv.org.

(emphasis mine)

Not to be nit-picky, but isn’t paying people $8.30/hour to go door to door the opposite of grass roots, or is this part of that "layered strategy." You know, the one where there are no grass roots at all and they are just paying people to shill for Paul Hodes because frankly, there isn’t enough interest to get people to do it for free?

I think that’s called AstroTurf. And it says plenty about the viability of the Hodes campaign.

So what does this have to do with the LCV political action fund.  Well, it looks like a funnel to the LCV who is then using their money for the kind of activity the fund claims it is not fundraising for.
