GIGO Gecko-more proof that Obama’s EPA is killing coal & making electricity prices rise

Laser Beam on Coal JobsGIGO Gecko, a new commenter, decided to challenge my post on rising electricity prices (now at an all time average high) which I peg, in no small part, to the EPA’s new regulations on CO2 emissions that carry out Obama’s promise in closing coal fired electrical generating plants – or cause the to go into bankruptcy.  So much so, several States are banding together in suing the EPA to put a halt do it.  The operational questions are these:

Does, OR SHOULD, a solitary regulatory agency be able to kill off an entire industry?  Should the Administrative State have this power – or is this a usurpation of the responsibilities of Congress?

Which, as we know, decided to NOT take action to this Cap N Trade kill-a-like as it could not agree on the issue.  Which should NEVER been seen, as Obama and other Progressives would have us believe, as a signal to the Executive Branch to do it on its own. – that is not how our political system works.  But GIGO Gecko is aghast that I think that is exactly what is happening, so Lizardly Obama Apologist, this is for you:

I have never asked for handouts from the people around me or from the government.  I want to pay my own way. I want to work.  I want to feel pride in my work.”

Here, we see a coal miner seeing his government

Indeed – Has our Government stripped away the value of American Citizenship?

Certainly as this trucker goes through a Border Patrol checkpoint, one can hear the dishearted question and answer:

Sadly, they both may be right.  Ask yourself – what advantage does the ordinary middle-class American have over an illegal alien?  What part of American Citizenship is valuable anymore than just being here?  Used to be that:

  • I get to live in the #1 country in the Developed World – but so do they (welcomed in by Obama and watching this illegal kids invasion, an army of taxpayer workers to make their “transition” to living here easier)
  • They need to show papers showing citizen  (and now I can be challenged at a border checkpoint, even being a Citizen that should be able to travel anywhere without “papers”)

And herein is why I hate the dumb idea of so-called smart guns

I really don’t care for the arguments that those that wish to neuter the Second Amendment with a Trojan Horse: Armatix_iP1_is_a_smart_gun_pistol

The only “smart gun” that exists in even a semi-viable form is the $1,800 iP1/iW1 Armatix combination. It is an electronically neutered 10-shot semi-automatic pistol in .22LR mated to a bulky watch. For the system to work, the watch requires a PIN code to be entered every few hours, and it must be worn on the firing hand at all times for the firearm to work with any sort of reliability at all. Armatix also owns a patent which appears to be a software “backdoor” which allows government agencies to turn off their firearms remotely.

What American shooter wants to spend $1,800 on a gun/watch combination that cannot be shot with the off-hand at all without failing 100% of the time, which requires a PIN code to function, is time-limited before it locks again, which is only chambered in the anemic .22LR caliber, and which may be disabled remotely by the government or anyone else who learns to hack the technology?

No one who is buying a pistol for viable self-defense, that’s for sure.

I hate wearing jewelry – have since forever so about the only piece I wear is my wedding band.  No extra

So, Hamas keeps denying they shoot rockets from civilian areas?

I keep thinking that the Israeli-Hamas war is like that between the idea war between Republicans and Democrats.  Both Hamas and Democrat / Lefties are good at emotional demagoguery relying on both heartstrings and low info population and both pretty much use “its for the children” (albeit in somewhat different ways).  But occasionally, facts do crop up … Read more

Blogline of the Day – Israel vs Hamas

If Hamas got its way in Gaza, it would look a lot like the Islamic State in Iraq. If Israel got its way, Gaza would look a lot like Santa Monica. Just sayin’ . . . – Glenn Reynolds, Instapundit

Data Point – homicides per 100,000 people

Hmmm, so WHERE are all those gun deaths in NH in that illustration that demands that Democrats keep on taking guns away from lawful people?  It’s like there’s hardly any there….just the ghost of an image… (H/T: Modern Survival Blog)

Democrats hate “Washington Redskins” but embrace Andrew Jackson – the real “Indian Killer”

Democrat's Hero - Indian Killer Andrew Jackson
Democrat’s Hero – Indian Killer Andrew Jackson

Remember here, the Leftist activists and the hoi-polloi of the Democrat elite solons (e.g., Reid, Pelosi, and others of the Cultural Marxist (more the Marxist, notably)) that have decried their outrage they have (faux as it is) for any of those “racists” that believes that the Washington Redskins and Chief Wahoo mascot of the Cleveland Indians is racist.  So incensed they are, they created what they hoped was a logo that would cause the rest of us (who pretty don’t much care what they are outraged about) to be outraged in reverse.

As the Indiana Jones “Holy Grail” movie said (paraphrased to the plural): “They chose poorly“. Yawn….we don’t see it as a “reverse racism” slap – mostly because we don’t really care.  We see it for what it is – mean spirited attempt to make us feel bad or outraged, and with our “consciousness raised”, we’d simply fall into groupthink lockstep.  Yet even as they attempt to shame us, they can’t see past their own upturned noses for the hypocriticalness.  Oopsies (reformatted and emphasis mine):

…A name entwined  – with big money at stake – not only with modern Democrats but current-day America: Andrew Jackson.  Yes, that Andrew Jackson. The seventh president of the United States, the hero of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. The man whose statue sits directly across from the White House in LaFayette Park, and whose familiar image graces the twenty dollar bill, not to mention a portrait in the White House itself. The man who is seen by historians as the co-founder (with predecessor Thomas Jefferson) of the modern day Democratic Party.

Yes, there is “a rest of the story” connected with the above story:

Part 2: Where my friend gets a Bible quote wrong: Suffer the little children to come

Well, there’s more from my friend (and indeed, he is exactly that) concerning Christian compassion, the illegal kid invasion, and Government “caring” and Suffer the little children quote from Matthew 19  (emphasis mine):

yeah – we’re gonna agree to disagree on this.  Either feed’m and send them home, or feed’m and send them to their relatives.  Putting them in a holding cell for further processing, and waiting for them to be old enough to vote – ain’t gonna work.

My response:

Not matter what, we feed them – on this we agree.

IF they have followed our laws (at which, they would not be crossing our borders in the manner they are doing), they should go to those relatives IF those relatives themselves are legally here – on this we agree.

The law is clear – follow our rules, follow our laws.  Else, you are here illegally.  In that case –

Where my friend gets a Bible quote wrong: Suffer the little children to come

BibleA good friend has been following GraniteGrok on the issue of the illegal alien kids invasion and sent this to me:

Skip – whatever happened to “suffer the little children to come“?  This isn’t a moment to score political points.  This is a moment to practice being a Christian.  Perhaps we should be sending troops to Hondoras instead of adding them to the unemployment lines.

He’s a good guy – a hard worker (former co-worker), a good family man, and takes his beliefs seriously. But he was offbase with this and I needed to gently tell him that:

“Suffer the little children to come” – use the whole quote in context, <redacted>.  It was never for us to call EVERY child in the world to come illegally into the US.  The full quote (Matthew 19) is:

13Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 14But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.

And notice that it was His choice of an individual action – not a governmental one.  He did not

How desperate is the Left when the RACE Card is its only argument?

Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) decried the House GOP lawsuit as he addressed “all the white people in here” during the Rules Committee hearing — which was filled with battles between the Democrats and the newly unified Republicans like Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, who both also commented to the Rules panel.

Forget about Hastings’ impeachable past.  What his statement represents is the increasingly open philosophy in Democrat Party circles that race explains everything, including the certain demise of the GOP in time.  Instead of acquiescing to this evil, instead of accepting the premise of this immoral racialism, the Republican Party must strike back.

race-card-LiberalWe have blogged about this guy in the past (here, here, here, and hereThe first shows how this guy operates; knowing that HIS skin color protects him against widely being called a racist by the Left (as he throws the race card against Sarah Palin).  He is one of the more frequent throwers, but I have watched the Left use this more and more and more in what is now called “political discourse” as they use Alinsky’s Rule and attempting to demonize those that simply disagree with them.  Almost any issue, any topic, and the Left is going to throw

Well, we pay welfare people to do nothing – but do nothing Federal Govt employees?

“The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.”   – President Barack Obama, Inauguration, 1/20/09

Idle Federal WorkerI really don’t think that just because they show up for work, that what happens then can be called “work”.  Our Federal Government’s “whether it works” on full display (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Federal paralegals had no work, so they surfed the Internet

Dozens of federal employees at an obscure agency that handles appeals of patent applications went years with so little work to do that they collected salaries — and even bonuses — while they surfed the Internet, did laundry, exercised and watched television, an investigation has found.  The employees, paralegals making $60,000 to $80,000 a year, were idle with full knowledge of their immediate bosses and multiple layers of managers and judges who “sat on their hands” waiting for work to give them, a year-long probe by the Commerce Department inspector general’s office uncovered.

Messengers for Pelosi – not for the American people

From CNSNews: When asked at a press briefing on Thursday why her party’s message is “not resonating with the electorate,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told a room full of reporters “we need you to be messengers.” Not reporters, not journalists, not those that simply observe the goings on and faithfully execute their Constitutional duties … Read more

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) Question: should there be a Special Prosecutor in the Lois Lerner IRS scandal?

trey gowdy
Trey Gowdy

You know, the one where Lois Lerner, first at the Federal Elections Committee and then while in the IRS, decided that her Federal Govt positions should be used to target people who simply disagreed with her politically (anyone not a Progressive believing in Bigger Govt was her sworn enemy), knowing that it is all but nigh impossible for the little guy to stand up against the most feared agency in the Federal Government.

She helped weaponize the Govt against at least 40% of the electorate that consider themselves to be conservative.  Then, if that was not enough, tried to bring the Dept. of Justice in to criminally prosecute those same Conservatives.  It doesn’t help her cause (or the Dems trying to defend her by any means possible).

But try they did – and did not work out all that well, given that the Chair of the Special Committee showed his true prosecutorial skills  and just toyed with a law professor they had brought in (video after the jump – I guarantee you, it is not 6 minutes wasted ):
