Skip No, we haven’t run one lately – but that will happen. In the meantime, it was a bit interesting (given the big Voters First Forum last nite in NH) to see how different sites’ readerships voted on some straw polls. Here are those from Instapundit, National Review Online, and Hot Air (e.g., libertarian leaning, mainstream conservative, militant conservative / libertarian):

And we wonder why Politicians get away with what they do – we do not have an informed electorate. If we, as voters, do not understand or know what the limitations of what Government should be, then the greed for power that politicians crave will always be unlimited.
Well, here’s the text of the First Amendment – how many did you get?
Guns, IMHO, should stay strictly mechanical. When I point them and pull the trigger, they should go BANG! and not a quiet “click”. BANG! is good, click is failure. Not a great thing when time is of the essence and I need to defend myself or some other innocent. NO, I do not go looking for such an instance and nor do I want one coming towards me or mine. But if it happens, I want my self-defense to be rock solid, given that I can no longer put my right foot into your left ear while standing 6″ from you. THIS, happening to a high end Smart Rifle (costing more than most of us can afford for a car) is not “reliable” and proves that point that many of us who own and use guns have warned about for years (reformatted, emphasis mine):

But in a video demonstration for Wired, security researchers Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger, her husband, proved they could hack into the system and cause serious havoc.

Steyn stated, “Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says this is temporary insanity on the part of whatever it is, 20-something percent of the Republican base. I think it was Einstein who said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting a different result, and the base supported the Republican Party establishment, delivered them a huge victory in 2010 in the House, and a huge victory in the House and Senate in 2014, and got nothing to show for it. And they’re tired of stiffed by the Republican Party establishment. And I think Trump’s rise in the poll, reflects actually nothing more sophisticated than the fact that the voter base of the Republican Party absolutely hates the Republican Party leadership and establishment.”
At least here in NH, you’d think that they would have figured this out with the losses at the top of the ticket. But yet, I hear nothing from that leadership – but I certainly do see what they are doing. Steyn continues:

[Boehner] is essentially delivering for Barack Obama everything Barack Obama wants. Just because you’re dressed up as a Republican doesn’t make it so… By his actions, he has demonstrated that he is not a conservative. He spends his time with [Rep. Kevin] McCarthy (R-CA) and [Rep. Steve] Scalise (R-LA) conspiring against the Tea Party and the more conservative elements of his caucus… I can’t think of one significant advance in the cause of liberty or limited government under John Boehner. When he and [Sen. Mitch] McConnell (R-KY)—who’s equally bad— surrendered the power of the purse right out of the box… they just delivered Obama everything he wanted. So these men have helped Obama oversee the biggest explosion of government both in spending and in power ever.
Once again, we see yet another example that they care only about the “Winning” part of the meme “Winning is only the precursor; what you do afterwards is more important“. Once again, we see yet one more high level NH GOP official or candidate (Steve Duprey, Chris Sununu (given he voted to fund PPNE before and REFUSES to engage on how he will vote this week from his position on the Executive Council, Scott Brown, Walt Havenstein, Juliana Bergeron, Chuck Morse, Jeb Bradley, Nancy Stiles )disregarding (or is that dismembering) the NH GOP Platform on a whole host of the important planks. Homosexual marriage, Obamacare / Medicaid Expansion, more taxes, bigger government – why do we put up with this? Isn’t it time to start demanding better? If Leadership can’t support what the Party says it does, why do WE keep supporting what seems to be, more and more, a Potempkin Party?
And to top it off, NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn must be complicit in this for her loud thundering silence. She, of all people, is responsible for the NH GOP “brand”. What IS that brand now a days? Can she make ANY argument for the Platform that isn’t dissolved by her agents’ actions?
And now comes Kelly Ayotte, Jr Senator from NH.
I have listened to The Captain for years – it seems like when he first made the transition to radio. But he has always been a newspaper guy and his column in the Boston Herald is one I look forward to. This week’s was fun – a take off on the “If you…..you’re a redneck”. Instead, a liberal:
Question of the week was asked by Chris Matthews of MSNBC on his Hardball show “What is the difference between Democrats and Socialists?” – asked of the Democrat National Committee head honcho Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) to the curious event of self declared independent and self-avowed Socialist Bernie Sanders seeking the Presidential nomination of a Party to which he doesn’t even belong.
Funny, that – she has NO answer. Given that the Democrat Party has rid itself of ITS moderates (the so-called Blue Dog Democrats), it has swung further Left than what GOP has gone right. In this respect, which is better – the GOP returning to our country’s roots in the Constitution, or the Left moving to the Communist Manifesto?
And on today’s Meet The Press, the question came up when Chuck Todd, host, asked again:

I ready this and being the engineer that I am, I instantly thought of a number of ways in which to render this “fix” irrelevant and avoid it completely, but here is the sad story:
San Francisco’s #1 problem might be solved with pee-resistant paint
San Francisco is testing the idea of painting walls with urine-repellant paint that will soak the sprayer before the wall gets wet. Mohammed Nuru, San Francisco’s director of public works, got the idea to use the paint, Ultra-Ever Dry, after reading about its effectiveness in Hamburg, Germany. The paint repels most liquids so the urine would “bounce back” on the sprayer.
“The urine will bounce back on the guy’s pants and shoes,” Rachel Gordon, a public works department spokeswoman, said. “The idea is they will think twice next time about urinating in public.” After painting nine walls around areas with prominent nightlife or homeless communities, the city has received requests many other requests for the paint. In fact, it costs less money to paint the wall than to clean it, Gordon said, according to The Guardian.

concerning the Left’s embracing their censors when they hear speech they do not like; it is insufficient to debate those of us on the Right. Instead, they refuse to debate, thinking us beneath their dignity, but fully within their “dignity” to use any and all tactics to silence those that disagree with their politically correct nonsense speech:
On a recent episode of Headline News’s Dr. Drew on Call, transexual Inside Edition reporter Zoey Tur put his hand on commentator Ben Shapiro’s neck and threatened to send Ben home in an ambulance. This was in response to the fact that Ben called Tur “sir,” and thus refused to accept him as a woman. Rather than make his case in response, Tur bought into the logic of fascism. After that, as far as I’m concerned, his opinion doesn’t matter. His gender doesn’t matter. His feelings don’t matter. When you go to violence in response to words, by my lights, you become a fascist; you become a thug. Your moral legitimacy is gone, baby, gone.
How UNLADY-like was transgender Mr. Tur to have threatened Shapiro, a gay Jew, with physical violence for not using speech that Tur approved on. “Speak only what I allow you to say or I will HURT you!” Free speech is just that: I have the Right to say it but that does not mean you have to listen to it. The same applies to what you wish to be called; you can ask but you have no Right to demand it from others. However, the Left DEMANDS obedience and without it, demands retribution to cause real harm (physical as in this case, often financial and career threats as with Brendan Eich). Klavan continues:
And this is one reason why I rarely take environmentalists seriously anymore. After all, when in college in the late 70s, the headlines were all chock-a-block about a new Ice Age coming and we’re all gonna die!! From the San Jose Mercury News 6/30/89:

So this is supposed to be a foremost guiding principle of our Republic, eh? Free Speech – the Right to speak your mind, regardless of whether or not you want to listen (you don’t have to), you like it (you don’t have to), or it offends you terribly. To that last part, tough noogies – not my issue, only your’s. But this faint hearted Social Justice Warrior (SJW), Danielle Moodie-Mills, believes she her values of what is right can trump my Right to free speech.
Yeah, that’s fascism:
Did you know there’s a NEW crime against Political Correctness? Misgendering. Yup. Never knew it existed. But she does and you have to live by it!
“American,” “illegal alien,” “foreigners,” “mothering,” and “fathering” are just a handful of words deemed “problematic” by the University of New Hampshire’s Bias-Free Language Guide. According to the university’s website, the guide “is meant to invite inclusive excellence in [the] campus community.” Terms also considered problematic include: “elders,” “senior citizen,” “overweight,” “speech impediment,” “dumb,” “sexual preference,” “manpower,” “freshmen,” “mailman,” and “chairman,” in addition to many others.
This is really starting to approach the medieval religious conundrum of how many angels can fit on the head of a pin. Or as O’Reilly would say, UNH is becoming a community of pinheads. Once again, “the Academy” shows its illiberal and, in the case of “American”, it’s anti-American bias. Sorry eggheads, but in your angelic pursuit being inclusive, how inclusive is it to make your country a dirty word?
More and more I am hearing things like the following. And yes, I am getting to that point as well – I no longer will listen to Republicans yammer their pie holes and expect me to believe in that yellow rain. Trust – built over time, gone in an instant. A lot of the base WANTS to believe them but at some point, the “I’m done” takes over and the GOP has lost yet another voter:
Like most Republican voters, I’ve had mounting frustrations with failed promises on the part of the GOP since the much ballyhooed Gingrich revolution in 1994. However, my pragmatism has always gotten the better of my frustration and I have always reasoned with myself that, however feckless and impotent the Republicans were, they were better than the Democrats. At least the Republicans did not have legalized infanticide up until the date of delivery enshrined in their party platform, I always reasoned with myself.
