America’s homeless are lawyering up to fight for a “right” to live on the street — your neighborhood and personal safety be damned.

From Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles, cities are struggling with a surge in people living in cardboard boxes and doorways. Local lawmakers are trying to ban “camping out” in public and ordering police to clear the fetid encampments.

Now lawyers for the homeless are pushing back. They’re demanding that “sleeping rough” be legally protected. In Denver, where living on the street is outlawed, lawyers for the homeless want to guarantee vagrants “the right to use and move freely in public spaces without discrimination.”

I went to the post office this afternoon to resolve a problem with our mail deliveries — to wit, many packages addressed to our house are not being delivered there. At the office, I stood in a line with 10 or 12 other unfortunates for about ten minutes before being “helped.” The man who helped me had been summoned to his station after the only other clerk on duty had disappeared for at least five minutes, leaving all of us unfortunates standing there in an abandoned facility wondering whether everyone had simply gone home. Seriously, they feel “picked on” because they feel they have to – put on makeup?  And then call it “a tax”?  From TreeHugger (emphasis mine):

“Makeup, in short, is a norm, and nothing ruins a first impression like a norm violation,” writes Olga Khazan on the very real and troubling phenomena of the Makeup Tax.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, the makeup tax refers to the time and money that women spend on doing their makeup and hair in order to achieve a certain minimum appearance of professionalism. This tax is one that men don’t have to worry about, and is essentially another form of pay inequality. Even many women who do not work feel a social pressure to wear makeup in public. And there’s plenty of research to show that women who wear makeup are more likely to get paid and promoted more.

The American marketplace is the amalgam of hundreds of millions of people making multiple decisions on the products they want and at the price they wish to pay.  Inferior and overvalued products and services languish on the shelves – people need to have the sense of obtaining more value for their money than the value of that money.  Suppliers and producers react to that – either producing more, going out of business, or figuring out how to make that product cheaper without compromising value.

And then Government decides it can do better – and California is showing how bad Govt is at creating its own marketplace:

Feds spent $800,000 studying dating prospects for obese teenage girls

It isn’t much of a secret that overweight girls tend to have harder times getting dates to the prom, much less boyfriends. But federal officials apparently wanted scientific proof, so they spent $800,000 studying obese teenage romances. Last year, the National Institutes of Health, the government’s health research arm, gave nearly a half-million in taxpayer dollars to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to monitor groups of teenage girls to determine how obesity affects their dating lives and their ability to form relationships.

After all, freedom of expression is a Constitutionally protected Right.  And given that, here’s what was found:

According to Caddell Associates, which conducted the poll, “[t]here is an overwhelming sense on the part of American voters that they want to find common ground in order to protect both the expression of religious freedom and the rights of gays and lesbians.”  Those that were polled overwhelmingly made clear that they believed that religious individuals’ rights must be protected.

For those of you readers that are unfamiliar with NH politics on the Right, the Sununu Family is one of the family dynasties that crop up in various states.  There’s always watercooler talk about such things and some said that they’d be backing Walker – methinks it is pretty clear, however, the clan is backing Kasich – certainly much more moderate / squishy than Walker.  Even if they had been leaning towards Walker, I bet this would have given them second thoughts; from The Blaze (reformatted, emphasis mine):
