Welfare

“It is one thing to have free immigration to jobs. It is another thing to have free immigration to welfare. And you cannot have both…We have a system that increasingly taxes work and subsidizes non-work.”  Milton Friedman

Welfare

Welfare. The word used to be a pejorative. Having grown up in an upper middle class family, some will deign it easy for me, perhaps even elitist, to write this blog. Some will call me a racist or a bigot or insensitive or greedy.  So be it. I do not care a fig. I make no apologies for it.  Milton Friedman never argued morality in society. It was Milton Friedman who once quipped, “Society doesn’t have values. People have values.”

I recall Eddie Murphy  gyrating on stage, gleefully singing, ” I got some ice cream, you ain’t got none…cuz you on welfare.”

NRA Is The Problem?

Chris Christie’s Gun Control Challenge

“As for gun control advocates, I have no hope whatever that any facts whatever will make the slightest dent in their thinking – or lack of thinking.”   Thomas Sowell

Gun ControlGun Control. Few of the GOP Presidential Candidates are meaningfully addressing the forward push by progressives to implement gun control. We hear snippets that might cause us to think they are headed in the right direction, but is it enough? I say no. This is Chris Christie’s Gun Control Challenge.

Americans elected a Republican controlled Senate and House, a clear message that the direction of things has run amok. And…they do nothing. No wonder those candidates leading in current polls are of the non-political establishment. This also, is Chris Christie’s Gun Control Challenge.

Senator Ayotte Avoidance?

“A typical vice of American politics is the avoidance of saying anything real on real issues.” Theodore Roosevelt

Senator Avoidance Avoidance. Where is Senator Ayotte? In the past couple years I’ve attended numerous events. The events vary in scope and content. The entire congressional delegation is always invited. I’ve seen Senator Shaheen, Representative Guinta, Representative Kuster. I’ve never seen Senator Ayotte. Who is seen is a nondescript staffer reading monotonously from a sheet of paper. The Staffer apologizes and says, “Regretfully, Senator Ayotte was unable to be here today due to pressing commitments.”

Gun Control By All Other Means

“Do countries with strong gun control laws have lower murder rates? Only if you cherry-pick the data.”  Thomas Sowell

New York Anti-gun liberal Democratic Representative Carolyn Maloney is leading the charge on HR 2546, a measure if enacted, forces gun owners to buy liability insurance or face a $10,000 fine.

The Firearm Risk Protection Act creates a new kind of insurance for gun owners.

Maloney told Fox News,

NRA Stickers and Hoplophobes

“I think it would be very foolish not to take the irrational seriously.”—Jeanette Winterson

NRA-stickerNRA Stickers evoke an emotional reaction…Carter Gaddis is a newspaper reporter who has a blog called, DadScribe, a blog over-focusing on parental anxiety.

Early this morning, as I sit with my German Shorthaired Pointers, Chloe and Gemma, a friend sent me this link, What Your NRA Decal Says About You

Sipping my coffee, I read the rant…And then I read it again…and I chuckled.  Now, I’ve been at this a very long time, so my personal paradigm insulates me from the visceral emotional reaction this rant likely evoked within my friends at large in the second amendment community.

In Zimbabwe, They Do Not Cry For Lions

“If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?” Scott Adams

Rare is the occasion that I post an entire writing from another, but this is a perspective I simply cannot paraphrase. Literally, this writing must come from the source. I emphasize that because it was in the New York Times that this individual talks about Cecil the Lion. His name is Goodwell Nzou, a native Zimbabwean. His worldview is important when we think about the vile, stupid talking animal crowd raisin hell about Cecil.

Goodwell Nzou featured here on Granite Grok, originally writing in the New York Times.

Rednecks and Recruiting Stations

“The mainstream media has its own agenda. They do not want to print the facts. They have an agenda, they have a slant, they have a bias. It is outrageous to me.”  Curt Weldon
armed+forces+recruiting+station“Rednecks and Recruiting Stations,” is yet another theme in the liberal Screed. Espoused by the Lamestream media, the purpose remains to leave our recruiters unguarded, unprotected and still vulnerable.  Recruiting stations, despite being a target, are the same now as they were before Chattanooga. This back hand come from the top down: Obama commanded his military command staff to parrot the message to Americans: Stand down.

Police Taking Guns From Citizens Who Open Carry

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,[a] against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” —Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution

open-carryThe Free Stater’s advocacy for open carry forced the issue of police agencies  to be educated on what the law has to say about open carry. Such advocacy also served to set clear boundaries upon which Law enforcement acts regarding open carry.

Despite this uptick in recent years toward open carry, there still remain those

Misconceptions About California?

SB 116 Realities

NRA-ILA Photo

Senate Bill 116 was destined for the veto pen. While some will call me negative and pessimistic, I rather think I am being realistic. We’ve seen this pattern before…Like Deja Vu all over again. You have a so-called Republican-dominated Senate….Republican-dominated house, and twelve Republicans who voted no. Most Dems voted no…we knew that…But a few voted yes. At the end of the day, there exists no veto-proof majority. Thus, the bill dies.

An Open Letter to the Sea of Presidential Primary Candidates

“A charlatan makes obscure what is clear; a thinker makes clear what is obscure.” — Hugh Kingsmill

new-hampshire-2-600x397Another day has passed and another two candidates have declared their intent to seek the Republican Presidential Nomination. Governor Chris Christie and Governor Bobby Jindal. Eventually all will come to New Hampshire, so please consider this an open letter of advice to all comers.

I do not care what the hacks and professionally paid handlers tell you. Fact is, if you do not secure the support of the second Amendment constituency, you simply cannot win.

First, do not come here and tell us you support the second amendment if, in prior public offices held, you voted for gun control measures, the assault weapons ban or universal background checks. We fact check that stuff.

Guns, Gumby and “Gliberals”

“A system of morality which is based on relative emotional values is a mere illusion, a thoroughly vulgar conception which has nothing sound in it and nothing true.”  —Socrates

Glib, according to Merriam Websters online dictionary, is defined as,

(words) said or done too easily or carelessly : showing little preparation or thought: speaking in a smooth, easy way that is not sincere

Oh No Guns....and magazines...and ammoAnd, that word aptly describes liberals who argue for gun control. “Gliberals”, as I like to call them. These hapless hoplophobes who harp endlessly on about, “sensible gun policy.” Despite the ubiquitous din of that very phrase within the repertoire of anti-gun rhetoric and index of much-favored hyperbole, I still, to this day, don’t have a single f**king clue what that exactly means….exactly. Nor am I any closer since the genesis of its Newtownish universal use.

Free Speech: Guardians and Vassals

vassalVassals of the Feifdoms…oh how they love to rule and oh how we love to let them! Periodically, we hear the din of those who gleefully point out that New Hampshire is not very homogenous. People move here from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island to  flee the thumb of state and local governments, frequently viewed as rife with the corruption of ineffectual politics. Then…they run for office. The problem is they bring with them an “ala carte” cherry-picking of the crappy politics from which they escaped…here to the Granite State.

Senate Bill 116 Charlatanry

“Charlatanry…No psychologist should pretend to understand what he does not understand… Only fools and charlatans know everything and understand nothing.”   —Anton Chekhov

Senate Bill 116, An Act repealing the license requirement for carrying a concealed pistol or revolver, is being put through its usual cascade of lies.

Deidre Reynolds opponent of Senate Bill 116
Deidre Reynolds opponent of Senate Bill 116

Yesterday, Deidre Reynolds took the the pages of the Nashua Telegraph in a Letter to the Editor  opposing of Senate Bill 116.  Titled, “An Act repealing the license requirement for carrying a concealed pistol or revolver.” She shared nothing. All Non-original Charlatanry.

Reynolds claims, “Concealed carry gun law would do more harm than good,” and Reynolds qualifies her opinion sharing with readers that she is a “gun owner.” Reynolds makes three onerous and misleading claims about Senate Bill 116: 1) [this bill] has absolutely nothing to do with women; 2) SB 116 “does away” with licensing; 3)[the bill would] remove Law Enforcement’s ability to deny “licenses” to inappropriate persons – such as criminals, unstable people, domestic abusers and children. Let us deal with each claim….
