If you’ve ever watched the Ten Commandments – the original movie – Pharoh declared the name Moses be stricken from every record, tablet, stone, everywhere. The BC equivalent of “you’re dead to me.” This seems a lot like that to me.
Erase all evidence from the record books. Or the yearbooks. Good practice for being a professional journalist.
I’m not saying some future liberal dynasty won’t do something similar to Pharoh but today’s example is a bit more mundane. More a case of snowflakes being snowflakes. Someone, as yet unnamed, had two student’s Make America Great Again hats blurred out in a yearbook photo.
Wouldn’t want anyone looking back and getting triggered by memories of that guy or whoever that might have been president.
Littlestown High School student Jeremy Gebhart and a friend say they decided to show support for President Trump back in October during the school’s spirit week. Someone snapped a pic of them which eventually made it to the school yearbook … albeit with an alteration.
“We were like they blurred our hats out!” Gebhart said.
The College Fix notes that no one has owned up to it but the School Yearbook Advisor would have had the final say.
Fox 43 News published the following statement from the school.
“I am aware of the yearbook situation and a mistake was made. The mistake was not noticed during the editorial preview process prior to print. We apologize on behalf of the yearbook club. It is not the policy or practice of the district to improperly censor speech. Please understand we are working with young adults who are practicing to become citizens and what a better place to do so than in a school setting. We must find a way to have civil discourse around emotionally charged issues with students where the facts are understood and the opportunity to learn is available.” – Mr. Christopher E. Bigger, Superintendent of Schools
I’m inclined to ask who created a school culture that even hints at this sort of thing being acceptable but I think we all know the answer.
And what’s done is done. The violation will not be undone. And no one will suffer for it. Which means nothing will change and will happen again.
