Data Point: Status of US House Races

by

Not all of the races have been called at this point – 9 days after the election.  At this point, RealClearPolitics has it at 219 Dems (218 is the majority) and 208 Repubs. Thus far:

  • Dems have lost 7 races
  • Repubs have gained 8

There are still races to be decided:

  • CA 21 Valadao- R leading
  • CA 25 Smith,McCarthy – Tie
  • CA 39 Kim – R leading
  • IL 14  Underwood – D leading
  • NJ 7 Malinowski – D leading
  • UT 4 Owens – R leading

If the above holds up (and some are really on the razor edge either way), Repubs will have picked up 11 seats(while Fox News said they were going to lose 5 or more).

Democrats still will have the majority but there will be no running roughshod over the Rs as the more moderates, who are alREADY mad at the Socialists like AOC and her Squad for dissing them as the reason why their colleagues got the boot.  All it will take is 4-6 defections of those moderate Democrats to either pass some Republican “something small” or block the Progressive bills – perhaps out of spite.
