Going to Recess Instead of Problem Solving

by

In a true exhibition of leadership, the House of Representatives is going to recess instead of problem-solving. There is $1-$3.5 trillion coronavirus stimulus measure hanging fire. There are multiple versions of the bill. The negotiations have been ongoing. The latest stumbling block is USPS funding.

Bargaining with Pelosi is a mistake. First, there is no compromise with Pelosi. So, don’t waste your time or your breath. You are wrestling with a pig.

The issue with the USPS quite simply has nothing to do with funding. They run at an $8 billion per year deficit for a reason. Putting money in the bill does not fix the USPS underlying problem. It makes a payment on the past mistakes. What we need is root cause analysis. USPS needs a structural fix. We should not kick the can down the road.

House Democrats decry President Trump’s threat to withhold funding for USPS. Trump is right even if it is for the wrong reasons. The Democrats claim the reason is the administration’s opposition to universal vote fraud (mail-in ballots). While the administration does oppose voter fraud that is a separate discussion. Democrats have trouble separating the issues of fraud and money.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told CNN’s “State of the Union,” “If my Democrat friends are all upset about this, come back to Washington, D.C. … Let’s go ahead and get a stimulus check out to Americans. Let’s make sure that small businesses are protected with an extended [Payroll Protection] Program and put the postal funding in there. We’ll pass it tomorrow. The president will sign it… This will all go away because what we are seeing is Democrats are trying to use this to their political advantage…”

Recess for the House

The House of Representatives is in recess for the rest of August. Guess they just don’t give a crap about USPS or PPP or the children hurt by their heartless inaction. It’s all about priorities and going out to recess is certainly a Democrat priority.

Meadows insists possible voter fraud, not strain on USPS, should give Americans pause. The Postal Service processes and delivers more than 181 million pieces of first-class mail every day.

He said, “What he opposes is universal mail-in ballots where you send millions of ballots out to registered voters across the country, even those that don’t request it… Those rolls are not accurate. People move, people die. And yet when we are going to send out ballots all across the country, that’s not just asking for a disaster. It really is knowing that what you’re sending out is inaccurate.”

Such a “disaster” could mean months of not knowing the results of the 2020 presidential election. That could lead to the House deciding who becomes president. Maybe that has something to do with the House prioritizing going to recess instead of problem-solving.

Fox News’ John Roberts asked The President if he would offer the $25 billion for USPS, including $3.5 billion in election resources. Trump’s response, “Sure, if they give us what we want… And it’s not what I want; it’s what the American people want.”
