Partisan politics should stop when it comes to foreign policy. The strike on Soleimani was about defending America. We need to be behind the president and what he did. Every one of those countries watches our news media. They are seeing what the opposition party is saying.
The Constitution lays out the responsibilities of each branch of government
This was a moment of strength for the United States. You don’t see anyone standing up for Iran. You’re not hearing any of the Gulf members. You’re not hearing China. And you’re not hearing from Russia. It was a moment of strength for President Trump. Following this the stock market is reaching an all-time high, there is stability in the oil market and a trade deal with China. And the Democrats are forcing an impeachment trial. Go figure…
There are two articles of impeachment: Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The abuse of power comes from the delay of $400 million of aid to Ukraine. The Democrat assertion is the U.S. President pressured the Ukrainian President to investigate Joe Biden. The obstruction of Congress is about the President not cooperating as much as the Democrats would have liked with the House Ukraine investigation. Both charges are ridiculous on their face.
The Senate is now going to hold a trial based on the charges brought by the House. Neither charge passes the smile test. Neither got any Republican votes in the House. This is a purely partisan Democrat exercise of political grandstanding for their base. The charges and the basis of their charges or lack thereof have been turned over to the Senate. There is no there, there.
What’s coming
The television on this is going to be a snooze fest, though there likely will be some humorous moments. Look for the House managers to get pilloried by the defense for their baseless, crass pandering for political points with their base. This will rival and be every bit as serious as Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes. What we are about to watch is the abuse of the U.S. Constitution for partisan political purposes.
The Executive branch is a co-equal branch of government. It is not subservient to the Legislative branch. This is about one thing. The Legislative branch, the House side of the Legislative branch of government is trying to make the Executive branch do as it instructs the President to do. That form of government is called a “parliamentary” system. It is where the Prime Minister answers to the Houses of Parliament. Such as system does not exist here. That is a British creation. We have not been a British colony for some centuries, perhaps the Democrats have forgotten.
At any rate, there is a snow ball’s chance in hell of the House Managers prevailing with their case. The charges are baseless. The evidence does not prove the charges. If that isn’t enough the persecutors do not even have a Democrat majority in the Senate. They need a two-thirds majority to prevail.
Conclusion
This exercise is going to be exposed for exactly what it is: PARTISAN POLITICAL PANDERING TO THE DEMOCRATS EXTREME LEFTIST BASE. It is being done to harm the political opposition. It is harming the Constitution, the nation and its people. The reward for this abuse of our constitutional system of government needs to come… AT THE BALLOT BOX.
The president may be rude, abrasive and obnoxious. But he is still the president. We voted him in. On his watch, the county is doing well economically. He has not been adventurous abroad. The President has put America’s interests above world interests. (The Democrats should try it some time.)He has been strong on national defense.
Don’t we all deserve to be considered innocent until proven guilty? He was not accorded due process by the House… which is why we have gotten here in the first place. There comes a time when partisan politics should stop.
