There are a lot of tragic aspects to our current health care system. No one seems to be happy with it, and no one agrees on how to fix it. But I think there’s at least one area where we could make progress, in a way that could avoid a lot of political fighting — mostly because it wouldn’t require any taxes or regulations, which are the things we’re usually fighting about.
Obama Care
GrokTALK! – Electronic Health Records – Where we’ve Gone Wrong
We discuss Dr. Singer’s recent article in the Wall Street Journal and the problem with electronic Health Records (EHR’s). And the problem isn’t the EHR’s, it the government take over and how arbitrary Federal mandates have made them less effective. We also cover some of the false presumptions people have about them
Hey Baucus No Running from YOUR Train Wreck!
How convenient to awaken in the bar car, stinking of gin, cigars, and $30.00 hookers, and then slither off, shower, shave, and return just in time to shame those still hunkered down in wrinkled suits, shriveled ties and soiled pride.
Well, that’s what Sen. Max “More coal man! We need to get this rattler up to speed” Baucus just did yesterday when he waxed sanctimonious at the Engineer he helped put in charge of the unwieldy locomotive he helped put in place before he left to get his wild on.
He lectured Secretary Sebelius whose currently struggling to keep a grip on the throttle of the O.C Express.
“I just see a huge train wreck coming down…”,
“Squirrels!” Best Mind Your Nuts!
Last week we observed that the more train-wrecked-liberal places like California were already preparing for doctor shortages. Medical Doctors are leaving the profession because of growing government interference and the looming price and cost pressures of Obama-Care.
The Progressive State’s solution? Redefine what “Doctor” means until all your oars are manned. (Perhaps a more apt metaphor would be having enough hands to arrange all your deck chairs?)
This week I’d like to give that some perspective with this; from the UK Mail Online.
Roger Goss, co-director of Patient Concern (for Britain’s National Health Service), told The Sun: ‘It is amazing that surgeons don’t always take enough care to guarantee that they are removing the correct testicle.’
I’m a Doctor, You’re a Doctor, He’s a Doctor….
…She’s a Doctor, wouldn’t you like to be a doctor too?
You might be a doctor and you didn’t even know it, because that is how you solve a doctor shortage caused by oppressive legislation in the peoples Republik of (in this case) Kalifornia. Not enough “Doctors”… change the definition of doctor and Bam! Problem solved.
As a result of Obamacare and its expansion of coverage to millions, many states will begin to experience doctor shortages. California is dealing with this problem by redefining who is a “doctor.”
State lawmakers are working on legislation that would permit physician assistants and nurse practitioners to set up independent practices. Pharmacists and optometrists could now act as “primary care” providers.
It Depends on What The Definition of ‘Affordable’ Is
The Democrat conquest of the Insurance market continues apace as the IRS has just released some more rules for the commoners to live by. These ‘rules’ include the definition of ‘affordable’ as in “Patient Affordable Care Act,” and as it turns out… Nearly 500,00 children, under Obamacare, will still lack health insurance because many poor … Read more
Extinguishing Tobacco Revenue In Our Lifetimes
I told them. If you want people to quit smoking, you had best not get used to the revenue from tobacco taxes. Don’t count on it for anything if you want to extinguish smoking in our lifetime. You know, make it history? But what did New Hampshire Democrats do when Republicans tried to back away from tobacco by lowering the tax just one thin dime? They snapped like addicts in withdrawal. They got the Democrat DT’s and everything.
You can’t cut the tobacco tax. We’re losing revenue. We need that revenue. I gotta have revvvaaaaannnooooo. (Insert primal scream here.)
Their new plan? Same as their old plan. Raise the tax on a product they don’t want around to tax. Yeah, that will fix the wagon (actually it wont) ….until January2014 when a provision in Obama-Care delivers the coup de gras.
ObamaCare provision Prevents Government from Collecting Information on Gun Owners
CNN reports that Harry Reid slipped a mickey into the Patient Affordable Care Act to keep the NRA on the sidelines. Senate amendment 3276, Sec 2716, part c “Protection of Second Amendment Rights” Government cannot collect: “…any information relating to…(A) The lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition” Lucky for Nancy Pelosi and … Read more
Why We Can’t Have A Discussion With New Hampshire Democrats
Over at my other haunt, NH Insider, my Fridge mag cross-post elicited the following response from Democrat Jim Splaine on the matter of gun ownership, which exemplifies the reason why any discussion with Democrats on any subject is unlikely.
Why can’t we have a real discussion about this issue? Just like the myths of an “$800 million deficit,” or that “Obamacare is socialized medicine” (whereas it’s mostly privatized), or that “gay marriage is a slippery slope,” there a new myth a-brewing among the Tea Partiers and right-wingers that President Obama and the Democrats are after everyone’s guns.
We cannot have a discussion because the 800 million dollar deficit is not a myth, the goal of Obamacare is a government-run single-payer system, the slope is slippery because Democrats lied about their goals and intentions, and Diane Feinstein has legislation right now that includes gun grabbing language.
Real discussions begin in reality. Democrats refuse to begin in the real world preferring the one they’ve created to explain what they claim to believe. And you can’t negotiate with madmen.
HHS Gets Coal in Its Stocking
Democrats insisted that business owners not only had to provide insurance (or get fined) but that the insurance had to cover contraception and abortion (day after) pills, even after Bart Stupak voted yes! claiming…”There will be no public funding for abortion in this legislation. We’ve all stood on principle.” That would be the principle of believe the lie to get them to leave you alone, or if you are the other side, lie until you get what you want.
The Federal Department of Health and (in)Human services has since dutifully complied and made “The Mandate” part and parcel with the Patient Affordable are Act. So when a business owner in Missouri filed a suit claiming that the mandate violated his religious rights the court had to answer the question–can the government make laws that force you to act in direct contradiction to your religious beliefs under threat of penalty?
S’Preme Court Revives Challenge To Obama Care…
…on religious grounds.
S’Preme credit first to Hot Air, whose title I have assumed as my own. And second, how about a do-over?
Liberty University had challenged the law on religious grounds courtesy of the insurance mandate itself, the HHS’ contraceptive mandate, and the retarded left-wing notion that the government can prohibit any and every exercise of religious expression the moment it steps outside the four walls of the place of worship.
SCOTUS overturned a lower courts dismissal of that case –giving it new life
Obama Care is Coming, Obama Care is Coming…
There’s a great article at American Thinker about what you should expect with the rising bureaucratic tide that is the Patient Affordable Care Act. Read it. Share it with a liberal and watch the veins pop out of their foreheads. It is a very real world assessment of what we face.
For our purposes here, however, I wanted to post a snippet of the content, in the form of a list of taxes that are coming along side, that you can just heap on top of everything else bad that is in store for us in the coming months and years thanks to Democrats.
What you need to accept, regardless of what the screaming fairness harpies on the left try tell you, is that any and every tax the government imposes on so called big business, or declares as just making sure “they” pay their ‘fair share’ will find its way down to you as higher prices, fewer jobs, less access, or poorer service. And that’s before the corruption and abuse, the scapegoating, and the very shocking fact that spending trillions a year to give insurance to a few million may allow you to claim they are “covered” but because of all the other factors that come with that, they’ll inevitably end up have to look harder and wait longer for even the most basic care, the quality of which will. inevitably. decline.
The abbreviated list of new taxes is on the jump, some of them related to Obama Care, others are just the product of the negative side effects of Democrat rule, but all of them are coming…soon, and what you need to ask is–what will this do to both health care and a struggling economy?

Spenders, Please Wake Up!
I just read the Merrimack Patch’s Letter to the Editor, and I must say that it’s disconcerting at best. You can pretend all you want that we live in a land where we can spend, spend, spend and somebody else will pay without heartache. But to me, that’s delusional and irresponsible. That’s walking up to a child, knocking her off her bicycle, taking her ice cream, and then riding away pretending not to notice the upset cries as you careen down the street. Well there are cries, and they’ll get louder. $16,000,000,000,000 of debt will begin to level some serious cries and pretending that the Orwellian named “Affordable Care Act” is A. Affordable, and B. will actually provide care when you need it is, indeed, an act of delusional, irresponsible lunacy.
