Project Veritas – Well, we thought you LIKED Gun Free Zones!

I love it!  Once again, James O’Keefe III and his Project Veritas has done it again.  This time, he decided to see what absolute hypocrites the Journal News staffers were on their paper’s stance that people in the ‘hoods just had to know where the guns were.  Just like sex offenders, gun owners (in their … Read more

Joe Biden: “If it only saves one life!” A gun saves yet another innocent life – a homeowner minding his own business

SigSauer P220 .45 ACPOf course, I do not classify one of the perps as ‘innocent, in the process of turning their life around”.  On the eve of President Obama’s pronouncement of how he is going to further restrict Citizens from their Second Amendment Rights (after all, guns can never be used to defend innocent, law-abiding Americans), comes this story of yet another incident where an innocent law-abiding citizen was able to “equalize” himself against a greater force of Strong Man Rule types (reformatted and emphasis mine):

Miami-Dade Police are investigating after a home invasion ended in one of the suspects being shot and killed late Monday night.  The incident happened around 11 p.m. at a gated community in the 800 block of Northeast 209th Terrace, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.

As has been said in the past (paraphrased): gated communities are where the money is.

Zabaleta said police received a 911 call of a home invasion in progress involving two suspects.  Shots were fired and one of the suspects, identified only as a 22-year-old black male, was killed at the scene.  The second suspect fled in an unknown direction and it’s unknown whether he is also injured, Zabaleta said.

Two against one – imagine if he didn’t have a way to defend himself as they entered the home without invitation (after all, that’s kinda what “invasion” means, right?)?

The homeowner, identified as a 19-year-old black male, wasn’t injured. Police didn’t say who opened fire and no other information was immediately available.

Nearby residents said they heard several gunshots coming from the apartment.  “My wife heard five or six shots,” neighbor Jerome Irving said.

Police are still investigating the incident.

So, where DOES gun control really fall on the radar screen of Americans bucket list?  Gallup has a poll result – and it doesn’t seem to match the politician bluster:

Obama WILL announce a gun registry tomorrow – and some want to track your buns, too

Tomorrow is the “rush it through day” for Obama to announce his plans for restricting gun usage as it is clear that he will not let this crisis go to waste.  Sure, you can be sure that he knows all of the stats of how violence stats have been going down – it doesn’t matter.  And if things go the way I think, he will act as if Congress doesn’t matter either with an overly broad use of Executive Orders (some of which, I believe, will end up in court); one of them will be to establish a gun registry.  No, it won’t be a brand new one, but a patchwork quilt of existing information that, all of a sudden, will no longer be deleted.  It will just sit there, waiting.  For some next crisis.

But once again, we see Government getting what it deserves – see a problem?  Government has to enact a ‘fix”.  Start meddling in other areas, to “fix” newly perceived problems?  All of a sudden, that first “Government fix” is broken – by Government.  So, Government being used to “Govt-think”, has a solution!  But has it been thought through?  Not in this case!

An on-again, off-again move by the Obama administration to scrap the federal gas tax in favor of a pay-per-mile fee would boost the tab to Americans as high as 250 percent, raising their current tax of 18.4 cents a gallon to as high as 46 cents, according to a new government study.

But without a tax increase, said the Government Accountability Office study, the government’s highway fund is going to go dry. One reason the fund is going broke: President Obama’s push for fuel efficient cars has resulted in better mileage, and fewer stops at the pump.

So, cars created a need for infrastructure improvement a hundred years + ago (and notice – cars came BEFORE paved roads; the opposite of what some central planners claim in genuflecting to that movie theme of “build it and they will come”).  So Govt put a tax on gas to pay for it.  Problem solved?  Not really – certainly here in NH, the Highway fund has been bilked for all kinds of reasons other than paying for road repair – and the same goes for other States and the Feds.

Well, on the heels of the information about the IRS liens on Jennifer Horn, I have

Sidenote: we had news about this quite some time before it became public.  We were “asked” to put it up – but I asked for confirmation that the amounts outstanding were, indeed, outstanding.  Since I did not receive such before it hit the papers, the official paperwork listing the liens were not put up.  I’m still not going to.

  • A serious lack attention to detail for running a state-wide organization
  • A serious lack of knowing what she got into in forming and running a political non-profit.
  • There is no mention of that fact on the website to inform the readers
  • And still taking donations from readers thinking that they their donation is tax-free

Truthfulness?  If the below information is true (and I have cut it down / edited it to be bloggish), she has even more problems (although having IRS problems is bad enough as it is).

Hmm, is it legal for Illinois legislators to make US Currency illegal? And register your gold purchases?

Gold Bars

What ever happened to:

THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE

A most disturbing post over at Zero Hedge – Illinois legislators think that gold is about on par with guns – you have to register your purchase and you cannot pay in cash (SB3144).  It’s sorta like, well, they want to track who has what. After all, Obama’s Progressive Hero, Franklin Delano Roosevelt confiscated all private property gold on April 5, 1933 simply by issuing an Executive Order.

“…Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall obtain a proof of ownership, create a record of the sale, and verify the identity of the seller. Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall not pay for the precious metal in cash and shall record the method of payment.” (SB3144)

From the post, this pithy summary:

“So let me get this straight.  First they want gun registration and now precious metal registration?  I’m sure the government would only use such information in our best interests, because as we all know: Your Government Loves You.  Sounds reasonable, after all, only ‘terrorists’ buy guns and gold anyway.”

And you have to do that registration either at a Sheriff’s or Police station.  Gee, do you know what kind of database THEY have access to?  Hint: it ain’t the SEC, the Fed, the IRS, or Treasury.  I wonder whose database you’d end up in if you insisted on cash?

Jonah caught the stupid point – ignored the far more important point

Far be it for me to correct NRO’s Jonah Goldberg, best selling author of TWO books on Progressives (“Tyranny of Cliches” & “Liberal Fascism“) when commenting on something in the news, but I think he went for the “ha-ha” and missed the “ewwww”:

From the Washington Post’s profile of Bloomberg:

NEW YORK — Michael Bloomberg, America’s most prominent and deep-pocketed advocate for gun control, would rather rehabilitate Republicans than oust them.

“Somebody got them the way they are now,” the mayor of New York said in a recent interview as he sat in the bullpen offices of City Hall, surrounded by a buzzing staff, blinking Bloomberg terminals and clocks telling the same time in each of the five boroughs. “Why can’t you change them?”

Who knew that the worst part of crossing the Brooklyn Bridge is the jet lag.   I wonder if the mayor has ever said something like, “I’ve got to call the Queens Borough president. What time is it over there?”

Hmm, what caught my eye was much worse than an ignorant reporter (the WaPo dude, not Jonah that caught him being stupid) – bringing the “ewwww” factor:

Thanks, Jeanne Shaheen – for raising our healthcare costs TWICE!

Health-insurance premiums have been rising—and consumers will experience another series of price shocks later this year when some see their premiums skyrocket thanks to the Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare.

We’ve already seen a lot of premium hikes – mine as gone up 20% this year.  And now, it’s going to get worse?  Glad to see that the Supreme Court decided this was a TAX, aren’t you?  Certainly, the cost of Obamacare is making me sick (yeah, I couldn’t resist) – you?  Especially if you pay for your own plan (you rich guy, you!)?

The reason: The congressional Democrats who crafted the legislation ignored virtually every actuarial principle governing rational insurance pricing. Premiums will soon reflect that disregard—indeed, premiums are already reflecting it.

I have seldom seen a worse pairing of words (congressional and rational) in a single sentence.  But hey, these are the dopes that can’t even pass a budget (any kind of a Federal budget, much less a rational Federal budget (yeah, I’m shaking my head at that one too)).

Such a media hound, this US Senator Chuckie Schumer

And acting like a Ruler that issues decrees instead of a Servant-Leader, too:

NEW YORK — Sen. Charles Schumer says retailers that sell assault weapons should stop offering them for purchase while Congress discusses gun regulation legislation.

Schumer on Sunday released a letter he sent to major retailers asking for a voluntary moratorium.

The New York Democrat says consumer demand for guns has gone up in the weeks since the December mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Schumer says Congress is debating the issue, and if measures get passed that limit these type of weapons, it won’t help if more of them have recently been sold.

Well, does that mean we, the Citizens, should stop using money, as you chuckheads in DC are “discussing” our $16 Trillion national debt ceiling (100% of our national GDP, btw, but you guys don’t seem to be counting) – which should alert you that we,  THE NATION, have no money to spend?

Here’s a couple of observations for ya, Chuckie (giving respect in proportion to that which is due to this idea):

An utterly horrible example of “Laws are for little people” – David Gregory will not be prosecuted

That would be David Gregory of “Meet The Press” and the event was him waiving a 30 round magazine on national TV in attempting to not report the news but trying to make the news in shaming / stigmitizing Wayne LaPierre of the NRA over the Sandy Hook tragedy.  Originating in DC.  Where having, possessing, and brandishing is illegal.  As Grokster Rick had in his post:

The law in question is titled: DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01, and reads (my bold):

(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.

Well, I had a thought on related post that mentioned this as a practical result here:

Sidenote: Example? Think David Gregory of Meet the Press and how he intensively grilled NRA’s Wayne LaPierre over gun control to the point of waving a 30 round AR magazine – deliberately breaking the law as even having such in DC is illegal. Yet, in that bastion of Democratness, has anyone seen him arrested for doing something on national TV that would have you and I arrested in 10 seconds flat? He was willing to be arrested to defend and promote a Progressive end point – disarming the populace.

10 seconds flat for you and me – and now never for David Gregory.  Dr. Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection has the news that being a Beautiful Person In The Press has juice (the media version of Crony Capitalism?) (emphasis mine – full Letter at the link):

Head Start – it’s “For the Children” even when it is a failure.

The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.”

– President Barack Obama, Inauguration, 1/20/09

SchoolhouseWe TEA Partiers are always being accused of wanting to get rid of Government as Progressives desire it and here in NH, the Free Staters are all accused of being outright anarchists that want no government whatsoever.  Well, the former is true – we want a limited government that yields a good value: a limited government that carries a small number of tasks extremely well.  In that aspect, the Free Staters (the real anarchists aside) also agree in that a limited government, by necessity, will provide an enlarged degree of Individual Liberty and Freedom.

So, back at the beginning of LBJ’s Great Society (which further pushed the Progressive Society started by Wilson, moved along by LBJ, and almost finalized by Obama), Head Start was created – a program to assist low income, inner city kids, to get a “head start” educationally, to get caught up with “the richer kids who have built in advantages”.  Problem is, there was a lot of concern from Conservatives that this has been nothing but a money sink with little results to show for it. Did it really give those kids the boost that Liberals swore was going to happen?  Er, no – #FAIL (emphasis mine):

Washington politicians interested in never cutting a dime from Washington’s spending can bring forth the name of Head Start quicker than the name of their own districts. It’s a heart-string puller. It has its roots deep in the Great Society, established in 1965 and expanded over the years to become one of the country’s longest-running programs to combat the effects of poverty. More than 20 million American children have gone through the program, which is designed to impart parenting skills to parents, and cognitive, emotional, and health improvements to children. Over the years, the program has cost $180 billion.

For the second time in two years, a Congressionally mandated study of the Health and Human Services program has shown it does not work. Its published date is October 2012, but it wasn’t released until after Obama’s election, presumably so Democratic campaigns could safely accuse Republicans of not caring about children and ignore the actual results of the programs they favor.
