Blogline of the Day:

If This Bill Passes, Possessing Pot in Texas Will Be Treated Less Harshly Than Distributing Straws in San Francisco. And this is what passes for public morality these days.  Seriously, straws are that evil? (H/T: Instapundit)

Data Point – A Time to Drill

It is clear that if energy is needed, and it is found, it can be drilled for and drilled quickly.  It is also clear that Obama’s Administration does not believe it is needed nor wanted, so they slow walk it (if moving forward on one’s knees is construed as reasonable progress). (H/T: RedState)

Enviroreligion: 12 dead humans. So? Big deal.

Left-wing statists hate religion. Their disdain shines through at anyone or anything that hints of a transcendental nature. Except for nature itself, that is. Now that…well there’s something worth protecting! Even if it means people die. That’s just too bad. So this is what…

Data Point – And we need a carbon tax to lower our “carbon usage” – why?

3. The chart above shows the Department of Energy’s estimates of CO2 emissions per capita from 1973 to 2040. Total energy-related carbon emissions are expected to fall to a 20-year low this year, and on a per-capita basis will be the lowest since at least 1973 when the Department of Energy’s data begins. Hypocrisy: Thy name be Al Gore (yet another Progressive)!

Since the Kyoto Climate Change treaty was rejected by the US Senate (and this uber-Progressive getting “the boot from the Oval Office” (losing his election)), we’ve had to put up with his (environmental) screeds in the national papers (and TV) about how Republicans (and Conservatives and Climate Deniers)  that if we all didn’t don his brand of hairshirt, drive electric Tonka trucks, use only 1 lightbulb, and the like, that the “planet’s fever” would destroy the planet.  Deniers: hate the poor, hate seniors, hate the disadvantaged, hate Bambi, and want the Greedy Capitalists to rule the world.  Profit is a dirty!

…Al Gore also talks to investors. Since 2007, the former Vice President in Bill Clinton’s administration has been preaching the benefits of putting your money where his mouth is: Alternative energy.

But if Al Gore has any message for investors today, it might very well be this: “Stay the hell away from alternative energy!”

Not that he would say so. At least out loud.

Climate policy is still firmly on the political agenda and corporate climate-related activity is increasingly strategic. Innovation is driving costs down and improving the business case for low carbon and high efficiency solutions.

Oh…wait!  That’s what he says…..but what is his Venture Capital fund, Generation Investment, actually doing?

In America today, we are living in a time of tribulation. WHAT DO YOU DO…

…when you are faced with the poisonous policies and politics of Obama, the Democrats, and their henchmen in government, in the media, and elsewhere? http://youtu.be/S6h9IJ15rdQ

Where environmentalists explicitly wish no access AT ALL to anyone – and are willing to kill people to enforce it.

I’m not sure if the proper metaphor is “enough rope to hang themselves with” or “let them babble long enough to find out what they really believe.  Once again, from that crazy hothouse of Environmentalism meets Totalitarian Murder, TreeHugger.  This post’s author is absolutely aghast that our civilization has found just SCADS of high amounts of usable energy and that we’d actually use it:

Consider this: If we’re going to keep temperature rise below 2°C (a figure it increasingly appears is still too high to avoid some serious climate impacts, but it is internationally agreed to), then we have about 565 gigatons more CO2 we can send into the atmosphere over the next four decades or so.

Then consider: The amount of carbon contained in the proven coal, oil and gas reserves of national oil companies and private corporations is about five times higher than this, 2795 gigatons.

In other words, we simply cannot allow that fuel to be extracted and used, if we’re going to preserve the climate in anything like a state we’ve grown accustomed over the recorded history of human civilization.

Notice the hubis that he REALLY thinks that:

  • Humans can actually stabilize global temperature.
  • Sufficiently number of like minded folks are willing to live stone age lifestyles to make that a reality
  • What’s this WE bit on the pronouncement, kimosabe??  I see no crown tipped on your forehead

But that wasn’t even the worst.  This guy just just wants us to live poorly; this next guy wants something FAR worse!

When it comes to Green Jobs, Obama Administration: “When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean”

From Alice in Wonderland: “When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”

Well, I could easily say that the Obama Administration has been nonsensical in how it uses words (been listening to Jay Carney, his Press Secretary lately?), and in a lot of cases, be at least half right.  However, to be truthful, spin is non-partisan knowing no bounds on either side of the aisle.  But this is just pure political gold in nonsense in a vain attempt to pervert common sense by an Administration straining to live up to a promise simply by redefining redefinition of a classification of who does what.  Obama made a promise to create 5 million new Green Jobs – at times, with almost gay abandon (betcha THAT will rouse the Political Correctness Police – but isn’t it LGBT Month at the Obama Department of State this month?).  Looks like he’s hard up to fulfill that promise, eh?

Like: someone who pumps gas into a school bus is counted as a Green Job?  Is that really what the Obama Admin wants a “green job” to mean?  Sheesh, and I thought that fossil fuels were THE ENEMY?  Something to be hated and done away with?  So, someone who actually SELLS oil / gas – that’s now a Green Job?  Does that mean that soon, the Gulf will be soon getting Obama’s blessing, and the oil and gas industry will flourish again (after all, that Green Job pumping gas into the school bus can’t do his job without theirs’)?

(H/T: Hot Air (and lots of other places)) – longer version can be watched here.

I think I have to go Google this – am betting that the Sierra Club has something to say about this!

What is amusing is to watch a grown man, who in other setting might be seen as a ‘serious fellow’, squirming knowing that there is absolutely no come back for Congressman Issa’s questions.  A process by which should have you, loyal reader, thinking – what other stupidity is in there that bureaucracy thinks is “highbrow” and “an ultimate thought”?

Human Achievement Hour – 2012

Human Achievement HourOK, it’s that time of year again: Earth Hour is upon us where tonite between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30, we are all supposed to act like we are back in the Stone Age and just sit in the dark (ok, maybe a candle might be OK, but remember : IT’S CREATING MORE CO2!!!!!!).  But remember, it’s intentions that could (as with all things Liberal, the Environmental movement has morphed into after first being responsible) rather than actually, you know, accomplishing something concrete.

But SKIP!, you don’t think that turning off all the lights for exactly ONE hour is actually a responsible act?

So, how do some “Ecologists” see the human race?

I have several different sets of “bookmarks” in my FireFox setup – one has some environmental sites that I go to.  Yes folks, there are conservative leaning (what I would consider, given that I hold two scientific degrees, “leaning on science” sites).  Others?  I would have to say that one of them is more of the “true believe” (what I would consider, given that I hold two scientific degrees, “leaning on faith” sites): TreeHugger (ya think!).  It can be VERY instructive at times – the post:

Experts Warn Urban Expansion Puts Humanity at Risk

With 7 billion people on the planet, things have already begun to feel a bit hot and crowded, particularly in swelling urban centers — but researchers warn that we’ve ain’t seen nothing yet. Over the next 38 years, Earth’s population is predicted to balloon to 9 billion, with most of those new additions taking up residence in our increasingly crowded cities. But not only does such an outlook of expanding sprawl spell trouble in terms of city planning, say experts, its environmental toll could put humanity itself at risk.

Ah yes, people after Paul Erlich’s own heart (not to mention John Holdren – the science advisor to President Obama): Malthusians (e.g.,  we denizens of earth have been overcrowding the Earth for hundreds of years now.  Now, it isn’t that these folks are just for having the right number of folks living on earth, some of them want NO folks living on earth – look at this comment that one of them left for us all:

Difference between free market vs command-and-control economy could not be starker; why do environmentalists wish to turn us into the latter?

The big international news of the day is the death of North Korea’s despot, Kim Jong Ill (yes, the obligatory “no longer ill,  just dead”).  The Communist regime that has controlled the country since the ’40s with its Stalinist command and control can easily be seen from space at night as the image to the … Read more

Yes, More US Energy Use Equals More Output

This is not a theorem, or a rule, it is more of a guideline.  That US Energy consumption produces  equals output.  I made this case back in 2008 when wackadoodles like Jeanne Shaheen, Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter (among others milking the teats of the earth-mother for green votes) complained about how America used 25% of the worlds energy–or something close to it, and we were evil for using all that energy.  The narrative was that we were domestic abuses of a child named "resources."

My point, proven time and again, and again, and again, is that we took roughly 25% of the worlds energy and turned it into 25% or more of the worlds wealth and prosperity.  The US GDP as a percentage of global GDP was almost identical to our percentage of energy consumption.

But we did it cleaner, faster, better, with more freedom and choices than anywhere else on the planet. And the end result was the richest nation with the fewest poor, the best health care, and almost a better everything else.  Even our poor are better.

Liberals and progressives in the democrat party however hate that, just like they hate this; more proof that we do more good things with energy by 6AM than the rest of the world does all day.

It is a chart (on the jump), that shows GDP output compared to energy consumption.  Follow the link, and you can play with the interactive version that shows you who, where, what and so on.  Press play to watch use and growth. Try the tabs and check boxes, and have a grand old time–for about 90 seconds.  Then share it with your annoying liberal friends, and make them buy you another drink for being wrong yet again about something else they will continue to insist is true despite evidence to the contrary.  (There is no settled science but global warming after all.)

More Stupid Environmentalist Notions

Liberals say the dumbest things. A few days ago we read that a number of activists are trying to terminate the license renewal for Seabrook Nuclear power plant because, they insist, renewable sources will become available to replace the power Seabrook currently generates.
